Catherine Behrer dies suddenly at daughter Mrs. C. B. Beadle home last Friday at age 80 after long illness. Born in Hitsahaueen Germany on March 1833 she immigrated 1854 and married Gottlieb Behrer in 1855. Seven children survive along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a German Evangelical church member and known as a loving mother and neighbor.
Thomas Bridgett Sr died at his Martinsville farm home on October 8 1913 aged 81 years and 8 months. Born in Pennsylvania in 1832 he endured an orphan’s early years and wandered from Ohio to Indiana and Illinois before settling in Martinsville. Survived by his fifth wife six sons six daughters twenty eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren he was described as honest industrious and a good neighbor. funeral conducted by Rev L G Fasig and buried at Mt Pleasant.

The Wabash Gas Co asked to raise price from 26 cents to 30 cents per 1000 cubic feet. The council discussed the request at length and unanimously approved the higher rate citing investment and supply needs while promising to keep gas affordable for households.
The board of supervisors approved a contract with Charles Co. Harper for a county books investigation at ten dollars a day. Sam Sanders who escaped from jail after stealing Harry Mauk's horse weeks ago was recaptured off town. He had been given some liberties by the turnkey and tunneled through a brick wall before climbing to the office and walking away. He is identified as Vernie Elking, a former U S Army deserter captured about a mile from town. The jail break and chase drew local attention and sparked a broader community report.
Yesterday's results show Donn Roberts elected mayor of Terre Haute by about 2000 votes, amid debate over his stance toward alleged criminals. New York City elected fusion candidate John P. Mitchell as mayor by over 60 000 votes, while former Governor Sulzer won a congress seat on the Progressive ticket. James Fort aged 87 died suddenly at the county infirmary where he had been an inmate for three months. He rose from bed, fell and expired within minutes. Coroner Haslitt rendered a verdict of death from natural causes. He leaves three children. Body shipped to Greenup Monday for burial.
The Boosters Club of Terre Haute invites the mayor city council and the Business Men's Club to visit the city next week as guests of the city. Thursday is chosen for the trip with a good Marshall citizen representation urged. Special railway rates likely to be secured.

Marion Bertrum and Clara Setze Wabash Township Orville Haalitt Edgar County and Agies Campbell Wabash Township Obie Bailey and Edith Opal Short Johnson Township.
About 50 guests gathered at the Entre Nous club rooms in West Union for a Halloween party. Hosts in witch costumes greeted attendees as dim lighting and autumn decorations set the scene for games cards and dancing with piano violin music. A two course supper followed at ten o clock after masks were removed.
The Eastern Star Chapter held a Monday meeting where officers were installed led by Mrs. Annie Mattoon of Greenup as installing officer. New officers include Mrs. F. W. Kellogg as W M J L White side and Mrs. J L Whiteside as W P, with several others named. Visitors Bertha Travis and Mrs. Cochran from Greenup attended. Light refreshments followed.
Regular monthly teachers meeting will be held at the North Side School building Saturday November 8 at 1 30 p m I L Gifford presiding president.
The circuit court will convene next Monday for the November term with a small docket. Listed are numerous chancery, partition, and divorce cases including Meeker appeals, Horsley partition, Rickards divorce, Keithley foreclosure, Draper divorce, and many others set for consideration.
Chairman Marion Watson reports an $89,000,000 rise in personal property values in IHnoers on the State Board of Equalization Personal Property Committee. Few changes were made by local assessors as the year’s tax returns were reviewed.
