Indirect Injuries Seen as Main A-Bombing Problem

Dr. Fiorindo A. Simeone of Cleveland warned the AMA Council on National Emergency Medical Service that half to three quarters of atomic bombardment casualties surviving will suffer injuries not caused by the bomb. He cited indirect wounds from collapsed buildings debris and flying glass, plus burns and radiation effects, requiring mass casualty planning and early first aid. He noted many will be trifling pain but fear and mental distress can be mistaken for pain and that wound shock could affect about one in five casualties, based on Texas City experience.
