Norman Bennetts Oakland sedan was stolen Tuesday night forcing Caslon Bennett to drive north toward Big Creek. He escaped near the Chicago road two miles north of town and walked back to Marshall to join anxious family. Police in neighboring towns were alerted. a description of a 19 year old suspect with light cap and coat was released. the car remains missing.
Urbana Illinois May 1 The state geological survey reports favorable oil prospects in eastern Clark county Illinois. Drilling interest revived by wells yielding 30 to 100 barrels daily just across the Wabash in Sullivan county Indiana. Gail F Moulton and Jackson Young describe rock structure stratigraphy and outline a drilling program near Marshall with Devonian limestone anticlinal nose suitable for testing.
A Dairy Herd Improvement Association test is underway in Clark county with 24 herds being evaluated for milk and butterfat. Walter Morgan of Normal is the cow tester, entering his second month in Clark county duties.

Caslon Bennett won boys' violin solo first. Marie McDaniel tied for second in girls' violin. Miss Nina Kammacher first in Modern Poetry. Miss Martha Spangler second in Humorous. Helen Jane Smith third in oratory. Marshall leads Paris by two points with 341 3/4 points. medals awarded to finalists and a silver roving cup to the sweepstake winner.
Paul Kuhn 63, prominent grain dealer and head of Paul Kuhn & Co of Terre Haute, died Wednesday at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis after months of illness. Funeral set for 2:30 p.m. tomorrow from Terre Haute residence with private burial at Highlawn. He owned a Marshall elevator line once numbering twenty and led Forest Park Stock Farm in Glenn plus several hotels. case details follow in circuit court: Bell vs Newbery et al regarding assumpsit.
Wm. P. Holaday, 18th Illinois congressman and House appropriation committee member, left Washington on a three day air trip with 22 bombing planes 6 transport aircraft and several observation planes. The group will witness Langley Field maneuvers led by Major General James E. Fecher testing fragmentation bombs smoke screen tactics and simulated assaults on artillery units before returning to Washington.
Esther Wright was hired Thursday night to replace Helen Fredenberger at the north side school. Fredenberger plans to continue schooling next winter. Remaining staff includes North Side principal Mary Washburn and teachers Kahnmacher, Wright, Baird, Swinford, Gilbert. On Saturday May 12 the Marshall Township High School hosts its first annual Girls Day under Miss Kermit Cochran director of physical education with Charlotte Schweitzer Burford Indiana State Normal School dean as guest. Activities include games relays volleyball baseball tennis archery and a track and field meet followed by a noon dinner for girls and mothers.

A Queen's Bouquet, an operetta, was performed at the Pythian Theatre by South Side and North Side grade schools on Friday evening. The large cast of children was directed by Miss Dorothy Willams, with costumes stitched by teachers and mothers and scenery of hollyhocks and trees painted by boys under Mine Ethel Hurst.

John Cline a paving contractor aged 46 died Sunday morning at 11 15 at his Paris home after a brief illness attributed to uremic poisoning He had been ill about a week and was not bedridden Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 30 from his residence Rev Francis Hartwich officiated Burial followed at Edgar cemetery He died while fulfilling a Marshall contract on South Fifth Street and held the North Seventh Street paving contract in Paris.
