Former Marshall resident Homer Newman announces a 104 room Home Base motor hotel north of the Turnpike on highway 360 will serve as the headquarters for a new Texas chain. Admiral Motor Hotels becomes Community Inn after a merger, with Arlington as HQ and more properties planned in Kilgore Woodville Whitney Abilene and Houston a 200 room facility.

Jewett Teenager Dies in Car Accident
Thirteen year old Rosemary Clark of Jewett Illinois died after a head on crash on U S 40 near the state truck weigh station east of Marshall. Her father Albert H Clark Sr and brother Albert Jr were hospitalized with injuries along with Nigle Morris of Industry Pennsylvania who drove the eastbound car. Morris was returning from a California trip. the Clark family were returning from Terre Haute relatives. An inquest was called by coroner Don Hosch and will await testimony from the injured drivers.

Fire at the Turman Cigar Store on the corner of Main and Sixth Streets caused damage estimated around four to five dollars due to a defective fire. The Marshall fire department was summoned.
