John L. Keifer born July 5 1844 in Green County Ohio served in the 110th Ohio and Army of the Potomac. He married Anne Bell Burnside February 8 1872 in Indiana and leaves extended family. died June 21 1923 at age 78 years 11 months 16 days. Services held at his home with burial at Crown Hill Indianapolis. Roy M Atkisson and others announced marriages in Terre Haute Martinsville Robinson and Mattoon among others. Pirtle sells Pythian Theatre to Leon Cox of Chicago who plans to move here and run the business. Heat from recent days caused pavement on South Sixth Street to blow up in front of the James Colgrove residence Sunday afternoon.

The Marshall Chamber of Commerce band gathered at Prof L A Wallace's home on Monday evening and performed an informal concert on the illuminated lawn. The surprise event honored his 84th birthday and delighted many Marshall residents. Wallace, longtime band director, has been homebound recently but remained active in supporting the band.

Herbert Davis of Chicago driving a 2011 Excelsior motorcycle was fined in Casey for speeding through Casey Sunday afternoon at 55 mph. Police reported he failed to see Martinsville and attempted to flee when stopped.
Sheriff J. E. Turner and deputies seized the largest still yet from Chas. Milam’s farm two miles east of West Union. Chance Hayworth, the renter, was jailed in Marshall but released on a $2000 bond signed by R. J. Poorman H. Prust and Ed Crumlin. contents included three barrels of mash a large cooking vat fifteen or twenty jugs and several barrels used for liquor storage. No mule found. States Attorney Connelly assisted in the raid.
A Sunday surprise dinner at the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Howick celebrated Frank Howicks birthday with about sixty five relatives and friends. A bountiful noon meal and afternoon refreshments followed the church return.
The Methodist tent meeting led by Evangelist Powers continues in Livingston for two more weeks closing July 8. Sunday school is in the big tent at 10 00 a m next Sunday with classes and picnics near Big Creek. Pettit preaches at 10 45 and conferences begin midweek in local homes or churches.

H Lewis shipped stock to Indianapolis, Tonie Tyler hogs to the same place, L G Goble sheep to Chicago. Weeden Zellars band to play in Charleston July 4. Charleston to have music and events.
