In a heated church garden confrontation, Deacon Strong demands that the circus girl leave the pastor Douglas defends her, arguing she has no one else and that judgment of her past is un-Christian. Elverson hesitates as the two vie over the woman’s fate and the church’s reputation.
A fragmentary scene shows Strong and the pastor at a gate with tension rising. Elverson comments oddly as Strong prepares to leave, declaring it not the end while slamming the gate. The pastor fixes a cold gaze as the exchange ends with a cliffhanger.
