Fatal Truck Crash Near Martinsville Leaves One Dead
A Monday morning collision on State Highway 40 near Martinsville Illinois involved two delivery trucks from Marchman Drilling Co and Best Inc. of Dallas. Lester Wheatly 31 of Pinckneyville died. a large drilling truck was pushed through a subway and three vehicles burned with $20,000 to $25,000 damage.

Bruce Spires of Clarksville has been returned to Union Hospital in Terre Haute after a May 17 tractor accident. He arrived last Friday and remains in serious condition. The remains of Private First Class Guy G Nicholson, World War II Army member from Marshall, are being returned to the United States for final burial. An army escort will accompany the casket from the Chicago Distribution Center American Graves Registration Division within about five weeks. He was interred at Limey Toul temporary military cemetery in France and is being repatriated at his father David Riley Nicholson’s request.

A 35000 barrel Ohio Oil Company tank at the Martinsville tank farm was struck by lightning Tuesday evening at 4 05. Much crude oil was saved by pumping from the bottom but heat halted further pumping. The tank boiled over and was demolished. the fire continued into the next afternoon.

Boy Burned by Gasoline Fire In Washing Machine
Fourteen year old Bob Maurer of the Marshall area suffered severe burns below the knees when gasoline used for a washing machine caught fire from a nearby cook stove. The Paris Fire Department battled the blaze and the smoke house housing the washer was destroyed.

In the past year and a half, the firm grew about 25 percent, added a new feed truck, built a warehouse, and installed a rail road switch. The Zion and Emmanuel Brotherhood held a family night at Emmanuel Church on Monday July 12. Ninety guests attended as De votions were led by Harold Hirsch man piano solo by Mrs Roland Butter vocal by Miss Margaret Schaefer and choir and quartette selections.
