Denham Veteran Dies After Long War Injuries
Robert L. Denham born October 13 1847 in Clay County Indiana died July 1 1914 at home in West Union aged 66 years eight months and 23 days. He married Sallie McCalister in June 1868 and they had three children who died in childhood. He survived by his wife and siblings and was a veteran of the Civil War who served in Co. E 124th Indiana Infantry. He died from effects of a bullet wound from the battle of Kenesaw Mountain Georgia in 1864 and lay wounded for 24 hours on the battlefield before treatment. He is remembered for his long suffering and service with the Odd Fellows and the Methodist church. Interment was in York Cemetery.

Unrequited Love Ends in Suicide at Paris Hospital
Harrison Weathers of York shot himself in his room after writing a farewell note to his sweetheart. He was 17 and died in Paris on Friday after the bullet was extracted from his neck. The body lay in state Friday and burial was held Saturday at the Old York cemetery after a funeral at the Methodist Episcopal church.

The Vincennes Sun reports a St. Francisville businessman disputes Gaus er Martins claim that the St. Francisville field is exhausted with five Murphy farm wells yielding seven barrels per hour. Other sources say thirty barrels per hour. Gas pressure drops have hindered pumping but pumps have been installed. New wells are being brought in daily and the field may extend toward Knox county, though three dry holes may be drilled by the Ohio Oil Company on the Knox side before wider development.
