The Clark County treasurer race has been unresolved for eight months since starting November 6. The writer criticizes the delay and urges a court ruling, noting Minnesota's quicker gubernatorial recount as a comparison. Action is what Clark County voters want.
Bob Ralph James Willard 20 pleaded guilty to attempted robbery of Bernard Livinx at a West Union Standard gas station. Arraigned in Circuit Court last week, the case was continued to Monday and the judge sentenced him to one to seven years at Menard penitentiary after denying probation.
Clark County Fair officials map the 67th annual fair in Marshall August 4 to 9 with rodeo under foreman Dick McKinley. Activities include pony races, talent show with 250 dollars in prizes, tractor pulling with 800 dollars in premiums, Wilburn Brothers show, and Miss Clark County Fair crowning. Admission is 50 cents day, 75 cents night. children 10 to 16 pay 25 cents.
Omer Thompson of Route 4 Marshall raises a Poland Hampshire sow giving birth to nine piglets the first of last week and six more on Saturday completing a strong farrowing run for the week.
A list of couples receiving marriage licenses includes ira Willard Crawford and Mary Catherine Houston of Terre Haute, Elwood Wayne Kispert and Eleanor Katherine Frost of Montezuma, Roy Edson Tracy and Cleda Reavis of Robinson, Louis Reed and Marjorie Garo of Indianapolis, and Edgar Amstot and Elizabeth Garner of Marshall. Mary Lynn Crocker traveled to Indianapolis from New Rochelle and Bridgeport after a seventeen day vacation, visiting New York City, Niagara Falls, and Canada.
Miss Irene Heleine daughter of Mr and Mrs Glen Heleine of Route 1 Marshal will start a two month orientation tour as a missionary nurse in Ecuador South America in July Leaving Miami July 25 she will fly to Quito with the Wycliff Bible Translators Part of her time will be spent at mission outposts with activity in agriculture medical care Bible translation and education The trip is sponsored by the Puzey Brothers Fairmount OH who support Wycliff work in Ecuador The brothers also send young people to field service with no obligation to the mission society or sponsors Miss Heleine graduated from Marshall high school in 1960.
Robert L. Batey graduated from the School of Technology in Terre Haute on June 18 and has accepted a position at Union Hospital there. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Lawrence of Marshall and is a 1961 Marshall High School alumnus.
Dale Burkybile of Casey was chosen by the State 4-H club staff as the winner of the 1963 $200 cash college scholarship funded by Clark County Agriculture 4-H leaders. He will enroll at the University of Illinois College of Agriculture this fall. this is his eighth year in 4-H.

John M. Farr of Terre Haute reports the death of his father Jacob N. Farr age 74 in Glendale California at his son Harry E. Farr’s home. Farr served as the county sheriff and was the second Republican in office. Local traffic incidents include wrecks near Marshall with Valmore Parker and a Missouri car collision and a separate push into a fence near Jim Cork curve.
The nationally famed American Legion Auxiliary Choir performs at 7 30 p m Saturday on the Marshall band stand. The choir has won first place honors in national competitions. A free street dance follows at 9 p m with lawn chairs urged for an evening of entertainment courtesy of Marshall business people.
Revival meetings begin Sunday July 7 and run through July 14 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church located one mile west of the Indiana state line on U S 40. Services start at 8 p m with Evangelist Chelsea J Stockwell of Beckley West Virginia. Public invited.
Mrs. Virginia Butcher, 38, died Thursday night at Union Hospital Terre Haute. Survived by husband James W. and two children Donald and Donna, plus parents Mr and Mrs John L. Finkbiner, one sister Dorothy Finkbiner with Salvation Army in South India, and four brothers. Funeral at Zion EBU Church. burial Zion cemetery. Infant Roy Becker died early Wednesday at Union Hospital Terre Haute. Surviving parents, four sisters, one brother, and grandparents. Graveside service by Marrs Funeral Home at Marshall Cemetery.
Sthirty Years Ago 1933 reports Miss Mary Elizabeth Van Alman of Olney employed as music instructor at Marshall township high school for next year completing the faculty. A drought ended with 1 1 8 inches of rain by 6 05 p m Wednesday. Hilda Schiemer of Wabash township arrested by federal agents for operating a 75 gallon still in a Verling Murphy farm tenant house upper room. Julius H Leibson and daughter Marie and Victor Groeber of St Louis injured when 1929 Chevrolet left the road and ditches west of Marshall Saturday morning.
Vern Carpenter and his daughter Barbara arrived in Marshall for a three week visit with his mother Mrs. Bertha Carpenter and grandmother Mrs. W A Williams on West Archer Avenue. Vern left Marshall fifteen years ago and this is his first return. Robert E Kile has been promoted to captain and serves as battalion athletic director at the Officers Training School Ft Benning Georgia. Robert Taylor was called to Marshall by the death of brother in law Carl Taubeneck and returned to Alton Sunday. Miss Ella Mae Cork left Wednesday for California where she has employment. Dr W R Turman and sister Mrs Mattie Cushman hosted a family dinner Sunday.
Ten years ago in 1953 a flash fire at the Velsicol Corporation plant just north of Marshall caused heavy loss before it was controlled. Steve Prevo broke his right wrist on Monday while Mike Smitley, six, was recovering after a fall from a picket fence with a broken left leg.
Frank Pearce has returned home from the hospital in Urbana. A new circuit court case titled Phggy May versus Lester L May, di Vorce, has been filed.

The seventh annual Hutsonville Wabash River boat races set for Sunday July 21 start at 1200 p.m. CDT with 16 heats across utility and hydro classes. Mr and Mrs Wayne Black announce the birth of their son David Wayne on June 28 at Paris Hospital weighing 8 pounds 11 ounces. The mother is the former Berniece Morris. Mr Black is the son of Mr and Mrs Earl Black, former Marshall residents. Mr and Mrs Clifford Remlinger announce the birth of a daughter Lori June on Friday June 28 at Union Hospital Terre Haute weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces. The mother is the former Betty Lewis.
The next round of GED tests will be held in Charleston on July 22 and 23. Exams begin at 8:30 am in the testing service office basement Pemberton Halls at Eastern Illinois University. Tests will be administered by Dr Donald A Rothschold. Clark County adults wishing to take the tests should contact Myron Redrick, county superintendent, by July 18. Mrs. Howard Kuhn is a patient in Paris Hospital.
The Marshall high school class of 1943 held their twentieth reunion on June 22 at the Colonial Kitchen. Alumni traveled from Albuquerque New Mexico and various nearby towns to reconnect with former classmates including Jane Harper Hardway who came the farthest.
