A fragmented report notes Wednesday session where a proposed election bill failed to gain approval. The chamber recorded 21 voting in favor while 20 senators were marked present and not voting, with the bill then set for subsequent actions.
The body of James Fetters aged 27, a resident of Oliver Texas, arrived there from Texas. He died several days ago of consumption. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Episcopal Church on Sunday by Reverend Dawson. Burial followed in Forgythe Cemetery. He was married and survived by his mother Mrs. Mary.
Elmer Rupp vanished after working in Arkansas and Missouri with his second son. He telegraphed family he would return from Saxon to Martinsville around midweek on Oct 28. No word since and Saxon residents know nothing of his whereabouts, raising foul play questions.
Governor Deneen is praised for sending troops to Vienna in response to a sheriff’s call to stop a supposed mob. An investigation found no evidence of a mob or intent to lynch the incarcerated man for Clark’s killing. Local cities Harrisburg Eldorado and Johnson County are praised for lawfulness amid gossip.
Vandalia train No. 14 the New York fast express wrecked at Woodbury last Friday morning. A defective truck on a mail car caused the rear coaches to leave the track and topple. Only two people, Mr and Mrs Barnes of St Louis, were injured and no fatalities were reported. Traffic was delayed several hours.

James Henry Steward born May 18 1841 in Marietta Ohio, oldest of eleven, served in Civil War, moved to Indiana, lived Marshall Illinois then Ohio, joined multiple churches, died January 5 1910 at 1005 Plum Street. Survived by widow, one son Emmett Steward, five brothers and three sisters, and many relatives. Funeral conducted by Rev B. Es.
Congressman M D Foster of Olney introduces a bill in the lower house to extend the Wabash river survey from Mt Carmel to Terre Haute. Foster previously sponsored the Mt Carmel survey and works with Moss and Cullop to secure the expansion for a six foot channel. Wabash valley lawmakers in Indiana and Illinois press for the full river survey and the Army Engineers endorse feasibility of a six foot channel from Mt Carmel to the river mouth.
The Arcola Record Herald reports likely Republican nominations for the state legislature with Douglas County candidate Carl Burgett facing possible opposition from Charles McDonald and another. In Clark County Judge Hollenbeck is said to have clear sailing. Campaign costs under the primary law erode funds for sustenance during the session.
Evangelical Church announces native Sunday services with sermons in Marshall at 7 p m and 10 30 a m and Zion Big Creek at 7 p m all inviting cordially attendance led by BE Nitsche and others
Cole and Cole advertise tornado and fire insurance on farm and city property through and among large insurance companies at low rates. They invite inquiries by writing or calling for terms.
The township collector for Wabash township will be at the County Clerk's office to collect taxes on Saturdays. Harry W. Fawley.
The board of review assigns Clark county real and personal property value at 24 565 884. The total taxes to be collected this year amount to 281 080.64.
Eliza Taylor and Constance and Rosh Batson visited Terre Haute last Saturday. The Protracted Meeting continued at the Methodist church. Bertha Sears, working in Paris, spent the weekend at home. Minnie Scofield of Terre Haute plans to visit this week with her parents Mr and Mrs W F Taylor. Nickles of Prig visits the Rote Nickles family. Mr and Mrs Blackwell of aa aeison are hosting guests.
Laney Huffman a 17 year old Casey youth was brought here Thursday charged with assaulting Opal Boyd a 14 year old girl as she walked to school Huffman was released on 200 dollar bond.
Mrs E Singleton died around 4 am at her daughter Mrs E C Bolton home from cancer after long illness. Funeral arrangements have not been announced yet.
A Martinsville incident left a third horse crippled by a stepping on a detonator in a road dynamite setup. Morgan Sweet rode the horse in Thursday’s events, with three similar, unusual occurrences occurring nearby and at about the same location prompting calls for inquiry.
Lawmakers moved the primary election bill to the floor but made little progress yesterday. A new senate proposal would print all candidates on one ballot and omit party declarations. The battle is expected to continue today.
The Marshall Milk Condensing Co reports 1909 milk receipts of 1,414,010 pounds, up 254,951 from 1908, with $16,540.73 paid to farmers in 1909, up $3,771.03. Average price rose from $1.26 per 100 pounds in 1908 to $1.255 in 1909.
The seventh district convention will be held at Castle Hall in Marshall on the afternoon and night of January 25. Grand lodge officers will attend. All members are urged to attend. Launcelot Lodge No. 67 invites Knights of R S. Thomas J. Fishback and Roy E. Danner sign as organizers.
The Illinois Senate backed a deep waterways measure 28 to 16 to start canal work from Lockport to Utica. It envisions power plants selling power to pay interest on a 20 million bond issue and retire the bonds. The chamber also approved a city government commission form bill and a $50,000 aid appropriation for Cherry Mine disaster sufferers.
Amid quiet in the Mi nois field several large oil production deals are nearing completion by January end. Rumors place Riddle Company holdings among leading producers in Til m ots counties, with it said to hold the largest interests across the producing areas. Another deal reportedly involves Ewing, though details remain unsettled and subject to scrutiny.
