Mr and Mrs Harry Higginbotham of North Main Avenue report their son was in the United States Army and was killed on Guadalcanal Christmas Day 1942. The body is en route to the U S. for burial.
On Monday February 9 the Hi and A Meat Market added 60 new steel lockers to their plant. Each locker is 30 inches deep 17 inches high and 20 inches wide with two keys per locker. Only a few lockers remain available.
Norman Bennett editor of the Clark County Democrat was operated on for gall stones at Union Hospital Saturday morning. Yesterday noon his condition was reported as serious.
National Commander James F. O Neil will dedicate Mt Carmel Legion Memorial Home during ceremonies honoring the new 100000 dollar facility. The event marks the official opening of the American Legion memorial house in Mt Carmel with expected local and regional attendance.
There will be an examination for post master at West Union. The examination date will be announced later and will be held at the Marshall post office.
Death notices list Arthur Henley of Martinsville who died in Oak Park Illinois while visiting relatives. Also noted are George Anacker 78 of Marshall and T A Babcock 87 of near Grandview with burials at local cemeteries. Surviving relatives include siblings and spouses in Indiana Missouri Virginia and Paris Illinois. Funeral services were held in Martinsville and Marshall with Rev. Hendrix Rev. G W Gibson officiating.
A Scout Court of Honor and Tenderfoot Investiture were held in Terre Haute with 27 Eagles named from Troops 4 39 and 81. Mothers received corsages, and awards included a totem pole for Millard Flood for top advancement in the Wabash Valley Council. George N. Craig spoke as guest, James Kilman led a world scouts tableau, and the event celebrated Scouting’s 38th anniversary.
The old Scholfield home on North Ninth Street, recently bought by John W. Lewis Jr., is being razed. The Lewis family hopes to build on the site later.
Mr and Mrs W D Hogue Mr and Mrs Emery Bloodworth and Mrs Walter Kirby attended the line officers club of the 6 O S in West Union on Sunday.
Marrs Funeral Home expanded its fleet with a 1948 Cadillac funeral coach and ambulance and a 1948 eight passenger Chrysler sedan. The sedan seats are removable to convert to an ambulance, enabling quicker emergency calls while preserving a smooth ride.
Aged veterans from World War I may claim terminal leave pay for unused furlough time. Deadline is August 31, 1948. survivors and guardians of incompetent or deceased servicemen are eligible. Gideon J. Eikleberry assists with applications at Casey City Hall each Tuesday.

Mr and Mrs Harry Drake attended the national meeting at University of Illinois Urbana on Tuesday February 10. Discussions covered wrapping and packaging for freezing and methods for cutting, smoking, and curing meats led by Professor Sleeter Bull.
Mrs. Ida May Inman of Martinsville and Posey Rush of West Union entered for medical treatment. Betty Atkins of Martinsville R. R. 2 underwent surgery and returned home. Betty Hollingsworth of Marshall R. R. 3 was treated and returned home.

Mrs. Mary Hendrix and daughter Nelle of Auburn return from a two week trip across Missouri Kansas Oklahoma Texas and Kentucky with Mrs Hendrix's sister. They visited niece Mrs Anna Koenecke and Mrs Wm Nichols and noted Texas winter 1933 claims as the coldest in years. Mr and Mrs James Amyx also return from Martinsville after five weeks with daughter Mrs Carl Hutchings and family.
My and Mrs Munson Bolling sold their home at 715 North Eighth Street to Mr and Mrs Ray Forsythe. The Bollings left Marshall for Tucson for health. He is improving and will stay in hospital another month. Household goods will be sold tomorrow at 1:00 p m at the home.
The Illinois Shorthorn Breeders Show and Sale is set for March 3 at Illinois University Normal pavilion. Judging begins 9 30 a m and sale starts 12 30 p m. Vern Pickens Son near Marshall consigns one bull and two females including Lavender Dowager and Rosewood Bride. Invader's Colonel, a bull from October 1946, is offered, all tied to notable champions.
The Clark County Home Bureau hosts a county meeting on Freezer Storage with Misa Frances Cook an extension foods and nutrition specialist from the University of Illinois teaching fruit and vegetable prep for freezing. The session is at Marshall High School in the Home Economics room on February 18 at 1 30 p.m. All are invited.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas Johnson of York and Mrs. Fannie Mae Lindley came home Friday after a two months stay in Florida. They stayed in Orlando Bradenton visited St. Petersburg Tampa Clearwater Sarasota and Fort Myers and toured beaches and a sugar mill at Clearwater. They also viewed the New Smyrna Beach hurricane damage from last fall.
The Auxiliary announces a meeting next Tuesday night with valentine bring. a Silver Tea on February 22 with Past Presidents pouring in colonial dress. Past Presidents meet February 27 at 7 30 at the President’s home. Members urged to pay 1948 dues before March 1. District director Mrs Short reports Florida weather chilly but everyone fine.
Clark County AAA announces farm worksheets return to Martinsville office on February 13 for the 1948 ACP program. Farmers may sign up by calling the county AAA office in sville and completing a Farm Worksheet before the March 31, 1948 deadline.
A Valentine Dance for members and guests is set at the American Legion Home with Vaughn Arney and his orchestra from 9:00 to 12:00. On Wednesday at 8:00 films of the State Fair Louis Walcott fight and 1947 football highlights will be shown. People with veteran photos from World War I or II in Marshall and nearby communities are asked to submit them to Mrs. Vivian Roth or Charles Bush.
