Death of a Veteran Thomas M Thornsburg in Marshall
Thomas M Thornsburg longtime Marshall resident and Civil War veteran died at his north Ninth Street home last Wednesday. Funeral services were held at his home Friday with Rev P R Powers. G A R conducted cemetery rites. Born October 31 1836 in Claremont County Ohio he was 82 years old. He married Rebecca Elizabeth Deen in 1861 and left six sons and two daughters with 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He served with honor in the Civil War and spent his later years in Marshall after moving from Clark County and retirement from farming about 14 years ago. He joined his church in youth and lived a devout Christian life.

Mrs Sarah Rudy born December 1, 1839 in York County Pennsylvania died February 7, 1919 in Marshall Illinois at age 79. She married Samuel Rudy in 1859 and had five children. Surviving are daughter Mrs Kate Riley and son Henry Rudy, three grandchildren Mable Esther and Russell Riley. Funeral at United Brethren church conducted by Rev Hudson with burial in Marshall cemetery.

The War Department sent eighteen returnee cards this week and questionnaires were mailed. The bureau lists job hopes including clerical work for a gassed former soldier and teaching or clerical roles for a former teacher. An army airplane mechanic and former chauffeur seeks a chauffeur or electrical work. A former teamster and machinist aims for his former trades. Night policeman Howard Hanley faced rough treatment during a failed arrest for drunkenness as an Auburn man knocked him down with his own club and escaped.
