Larry Joe Wells of Marshall has received the principal appointment to West Point Military Academy made by Congressman George Shipley of the district.
The Board of Education will meet Thursday February 11 at 7 pm in the superintendent’s office. Teachers discussed the salary schedule with input from Eastern Illinois University Illinois and Indiana State College graduates. Governors remarks urged raising minimum per pupil spending and expanding special education etc. Lions basketball hosts Casey on February 5 with junior varsity at 6:30 and varsity at 8. County superintendent meetings and the 1965 66 school calendar were slated for discussion February 4.
Mr and Mrs James Sweet of Teutopolis Illinois announce the birth of a son James Ray at Hiffingham Hospital January 31 weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces Mrs Sweet is formerly Jacqueline Miller Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Raymond Miller and Mr and Mrs Roy Sweet
Dr Dietz head of Wolff Argency testified in Berlin at the German Lyceum Club that 1000 German papers including 120 political ones ceased publication due to the war. City council orders cuts of porch lights for daytime usage abuses.
John Pine and Leona Gard listed as Marshall and Dennison residents among the couples granted licenses. Hershel L Lowland and Edith Wilson of Martinsville also received licenses in Paris. Mr and Mrs Ralph Montgomery announce the birth of a daughter, Martha Jane. Nellie Warner hosted 600 o clock dinner with guests Elizabeth Hagist Frances Williams Florence Hodge Dorothy Rose Hester Alma Shipe Mary Plaster and Jessie LeSeure.

The South Vigo Congregational Church on Darwin road marks its 101st founding anniversary on February 13, 1955. Gerald Robinson of Marshall won district 4 in the third annual 4-H extra yield coin contest sponsored by the Illinois Extension Service University of Illinois and Illinois Farm Supply Co. Benny J. Chadwick of Saginaw Michigan formerly of West Union, a GM general foundry lab tech, receives a $1000 award for improving iron production. Benny is a Marshall High School graduate from class of 1949. Mr and Mrs Milo Collier have moved to their new home recently purchased from Mr and Mrs Delpha Hewitt.
Crystal Claypool was selected to receive a scholarship to the Tech nique School of Beauty Culture at Paris. Mrs Rosa Bosstick and a committee chose the winner from Marshall high school seniors who entered, noting Crystal’s commerce focus and active club involvement. She is the daughter of Mrs Raymond Claypool of rural route 2 Marshall.

Elizabeth Taylor and Ernest Geheb were married at St Mary Catholic Church on January 30. Father D J Meehling presided as vows were spoken. Attendants were Mr and Mrs George Geheb, with Robert Geheb serving as mass reader. The couple plan a winter in Arizona after a trip to Michigan.
Clark County Local Board No. 94 chair Mack A. Strohm warned all 18 year olds to register within five days after turning 18 and noted aliens must register unless exempt. Discharged service members must register within 30 days if not previously registered, and registrations may be made at Martinsville or other listed local board offices including Marshall Casey and Westfield.
In renewing his Herald for another year Rev O H Sweitzer of Marion Illinois reports he suffered a heart attack on October 23 at midnight. He has been recovering at home after a two week hospital stay and is now deemed OK. Ernest Adams remains a patient at Union Hospital Terre Haute.
In a candle light Methodist ceremony January 15 Miss Alice Scott and James C O Neal wed. The couple will live in Marshall after a Bahamas wedding trip. Paris Elks Lodge 812 awarded first place to Karen Lou Pennell and Anthony Alan Cork for Elks Youth Leadership contest. Their entries advance to district judging with a May award of fifty dollar Defense Bonds each.
Grace Wallace 89 of West Union died at Burnside Home Marshall. Survived by five daughters, one son, 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren. Services at Prust Hosch Funeral Chapel. Burial Darwin cemetery. Rosenary Wood 43 of Rockville died at home. Married to Orville Wood Jr. in 1951. Surviving husband, two daughters, one son, mother Esther Bohn, sister, and relatives. Services Butler Funeral Home Rockville. John C. Thompson 68 of Martinsville died at Burnsides Home Marshall. Survived by wife Fay, two daughters, three stepsons, one step-daughter, four sisters, two brothers, six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, one great grandson. Funeral at Auburn Methodist Church. Burial Auburn cemetery.
The West Union Christian Church invites parishioners to a gospel concert by Redeemer's Quartet of Oblong on Sunday night February 7 at 7 00 p m. The event promises enjoyable gospel singing and fellowship.

Ten members met to plan the 1965 tractor pull to be a fair highlight. Races run Thursday at 1 30 pm for 6000 and 10000 lb classes. Friday 7 pm for 8000 and 12000 lb classes. Premiums total 1260 with top prizes listed. Safety rule changes discussed.
