Footnotes on City Farming at Shining Waters Ponds
The author recalls lessons learned building pond dams at Shining Waters, stressing the need for wide grassy relief spillways. After repeated failures with tile and concrete, engineer L. D. Putnam guided proper water levels and spillway placement, smoothing repairs and preserving ponds full of water. The piece reflects on natural springs, past woodlands, and soil loss to the Mississippi Gulf.
