Shortage in Crawford County Treasurer bondsmen settle deficit

The Crawford County treasurer case shows a $30,829 shortage in Cox's accounts settled by bondsmen. Holmes supervised the audit to split the shortage: about $19,218 charged to the treasurer and $11,612 to the county collector. Twenty bond signers faced proportional payments, with some shortages carried by cash items and trustee liquidation plans under Everingham. Johnnie Hutchings and Mary Burkett wed in Terre Haute, with the couple planning to settle at Mary Burkett's farm northwest of Auburn.
