The Marshall Herald announces annual subscription will rise from $1.50 to $2.00 starting January 1 1920. The Herald and Terre Haute Star sell together for $5.00 as costs of newsprint and operations increase. Existing subscribers may renew at the old rate.
A Illinois Tuberculosis Association managing director warns that coal shortages threaten public health. Cold poorly heated homes reduce air ventilation, increasing disease risk for children and adults. He urges doubled Red Cross seal sales and health bonds to fund tuberculosis work amid the December effort.
Kelly Brothers take equipment for grading on the national road and plan to return in March. Their Wanatah Indiana headquarters are noted. A man who lives simply and thinks highly may be a genius, but bell boys do not follow him.
The Fuel Administration orders Marshall to close stores from 5 PM to 8 AM and restricts heat and light for non essentials to secure coal for the water and light plants. Mayor Dewey cites strict regulations and warns that failure to comply will halt coal supply.

Warren Scholfield died December 4 at his Marshall home after brief illness following farm work. Born March 21 1861 in Marshall he was 58 years old at death. He was the eldest of ten children and is survived by two sisters and six brothers. Funeral service was led by Rev P Raymond Powers at the residence with interment in Marshall Cemetery.
Clark county supervisors held a special session reviewing minutes and hearing Evaline Belden of the Red Cross outline welfare work and potential county projects. They approved bills for Reynolds Douglas Sandy Welsh Mc Daniel and Piety bridges and referred other bills to committees. The Big Four division headquarters at Mattoon prepares to move 21 coal trains daily from Pennsylvania Kentucky and Virginia. Each train will carry 3000 tons or sixty cars averaging 60 tons per car. Trains head to St. Louis for distribution to other roads, boosting traffic and business for the railroad men.
Warren Scholfield, brother of Sam Scholfield and son of the late Judge John Scholfield, dies as court closes. The Zimri Brant divorce is continued. Burkhead is jailed 14 years for killing Ethel Marrs. Brown gets 1 to 10 years for theft and misleading evidence. Linton on parole for one year. Cabot Hill found guilty of mayhem and assault. John Knight guilty of jail breaking and conspiracy. Glenn Staley pleads guilty to rape. Pearl Smith jailed for 60 days. Local bar members praised. Connelly and Scholfield commended for strong prosecutions and defenses.
Walter N. Sroufe aged 24 of Casper Wyoming and Gladys E. Martz aged 18 of Martinsville obtained marriage licenses.
A sequence of real estate transfers lists multiple sellers and buyers including Sarah E Ward to L H Johnson in Casey for 1000 dollars, Kate Thompson to Justian Davids for land 32 1 11 at 6800, and numerous parcels involving Sylvester Crandall with varying acreages and prices, plus related transfers to others such as Aurora Mann and the Church Extension Society for Westfield and Marshall. J. E. Thompson of west of Marshall took top honors at the International Livestock Show in Chicago last week. He won third place on a two year old bull, sixth on an aged cow, and sixth on an aged herd, with Perfection Fairfax blood in his herd. Thousands of animals were exhibited at the event.
Agent Sullins announces new express regulations placing shipments over 25 pounds in wooden or carton containers with boxmakers certificates. Under 25 pounds still accepted wrapped in paper. Shippers urged to send gifts early and ensure proper packing and accurate addresses.
The Red Cross held an informal meeting at the courthouse on Monday night. A resolution was passed endorsing Red Cross work and county community relief efforts.
Dave Cooper aged 72 living with his brother Uriah in Melrose township was declared insane by Doctors Prewett and Haslitt after examination at the county farm. Pearl Garver, superintendent of the farm, had Cooper taken there and Sheriff Byram secured papers and transferred him to the Anna state hospital, where he was moved Saturday.
Sunday services are listed for all churches. Rev H A Ford of Chicago preaches at the Congregational Church. Little children begin dances earlier in the evening, replacing prior bedtimes.
