Rabies Outbreak Strikes Marshall Area Prompting Quarantine
A rabies outbreak in the south part of Marshall led to a city quarantine after a dog bit five people and several pets before the animal was killed by Dr. Mitchell. Richard Shotts a 12 year old boy suffered a serious wound to the right arm while Marietta Clatteiler 7 and Doloras Clatteiler 10 were others bitten along with John Ellington 19 and Alice Guyer. All received anti rabies vaccines during 21 treatments as state authorities take charge and seal off the area near the Catholic church. The dog wore a collar and tag and lived on a route out of West Terre Haute.

The Marshall Jaycees met Thursday in the city hall with President Bush absent and Vice President Macey presiding. The group approved a by law revision committee, discussed street name markers and city planning literature, and voted to sponsor an independent basketball team with M. Fredenberger as manager for this year. A large turnout is urged for the December meeting to review by laws and start the first annual membership drive.
