A public sale near Marshall featuring 80 cows and calves takes place at Capt Has Harlan's Marahanl farm on Saturday. The Beech Street sewer improvement assessment roll was confirmed by the county court.

Old Soldier Farmer Dies by Own Hand in Sudden Crisis
Ben W. Macklin, farmer of Au burn township and an old soldier, killed himself with a shotgun in an outhouse on his property last Friday morning. Business troubles were cited as a possible motive. He leaves a widow and four sons. The body was taken to the soldiers' home at Danville for burial.

Illinois oil field reports dry holes in Petty township extend attempt
In Lawrence county last week the attempt to extend the producing area of Petty township failed with two dry holes. A total of 83 wells were completed, 39 in Crawford, 87 in Lawrence, 4 in Clark, 2 in Morgan and 1 in Jackson. Twenty wells were dry and total production reached 3894 barrels.

Barn fire at Swango farm destroys hay oats and horse
A lightning strike last Thursday hit a barn on Harlan Swango’s Oliver area farm, burning it to the ground with 72 tons hay and 800 bushels oats lost and one horse killed. Ten other horses escaped. Estimated loss about 4000 dollars with partial insurance.

Street Car Victim Dies in St Louis After Wifes Burial
Robert Carothers of St Louis began last week carrying his wifes body to Casey for burial. He was pushed from a street car in St Louis and died in a city hospital Friday. His body was brought to Casey for burial Saturday.

Obituary for Dessie Brandenstein of Martinsville Ill
Dessie Brandenstein born October 13 1885 died August 7 1910 at home in Martinsville Illinois. She joined the Christian church at Marshall aged fifteen and married George Brandenstein on June 6 1904. Three children were born to the couple one died before and another died within two days of her. She leaves a husband a daughter her parents two brothers and a sister. Burial was at Auburn cemetery August 19. She was described as a kind wife and mother who bore her illness of three weeks with courage awaiting rest in Jesus.
