The Board of Education met August 5 and accepted bids for school bus insurance from Richard King of The Country Companies Clark County and for a mower from Davidson Outdoor Equipment in Marshall. They reviewed heating and new-stack bids, invested funds in treasury bills, set noon-on-campus rules starting August 30, and arranged bus routes for students around North Elementary closure. They approved programs including driving training and rural kindergarten, and assigned Miriam Kallas as remedial reading specialist. The next meeting is September 9. The Marshallonian yearbook arrives for pickup in the high school office.

A barn and granary belonging to William Meehling about three miles south of Marshall burned last Friday at about 2 am. About 18 tons of hay 20 bushels of soybeans 88 bushels of corn and farm implements were destroyed.
