Wheat prices urge change in national farm programs
Illinois Agricultural Association President William Kuhfuss warns inaction on the 1965 Food and Agriculture Act has driven wheat prices down and farm spirits low. He cites losses in Illinois wheat acreage production and income, urging a transition to market oriented retirements and phased reforms, while criticizing the International Wheat Trade Convention’s export penalties.

Fall alfalfa seed needs phosphate and potash
Fall seeded alfalfa needs phosphate and potash to get it off to a good start. Seed lime, tow on and dist in 100-150 lbs of triple super and 200-300 lbs of potash. If weeds or grass a problem, use Balan herbicide. Use Flemish varieties for four or more cuts a year such as jalfalfa DuPuts Saranc or FD 100.
Heat Stress in Cattle During Hot Weather
High heat and humidity reduce feed intake in cattle with most consumption at night. Fat cattle suffer more from heat as fat insulates. When temperatures and humidity exceed 90 percent, provide shade or wind movement. If shelter is limited, spray cattle with water and ensure salt and water availability. Selling heavy, well finished cattle may mitigate heat problems.
