Big Four to Hire Women Operators Under Illinois Law

Obituary of Moses Bland founder of Greene County family
Moses Bland born September 28 1839 in Greene County Indiana died April 12 1914 aged 74. He married Ann Robinson February 27 1862 and had six children with two surviving sons Andrew and Addison. Survived by six grandchildren two great grandchildren one brother and one sister. Funeral services held at Dunlap conducted by Rev. G A Mathis.

A natural gas leak under the floor of the Klaszinsky bakery on East Main Street ignited by a spark from a bread mixing machine caused a severe blast. The front glass was blown out but, fortunately, no one was injured.

Judge Scholfield Honored by Illinois Supreme Court Appoint
Last Saturday Illinois Supreme Court appointed Judge W B Scholfield of this city to the Fifth District Appellate Court to succeed Judge Philbrick of Champaign who died last week. The appointment, though for a young judge, marks high recognition of his ability. The court, midway between circuits and the state supreme court, meets twice yearly and carries no extra salary beyond a clerk for each judge. The appointment lasts for the incumbent's circuit term.

Westfield Man Charged With Passing Bad Check
Herbert Conley of Westfield Illinois was arrested Thursday on forgery and intoxication charges after passing a fourteen dollar check at Star Livery Barn 209 South Third Street to settle a four dollar bill and receiving ten dollars in change. He claimed the checks were good despite bank and police findings.

Obituary of Drucilla Clark of Wabash Township
Drucilla Clark born in Kentucky on April 17, 1837 died at her home in Wabash township on April 1 1914. She married John A. Medley on March 7 1854 and they had eight children, three living Albert Emma and John A. She leaves 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She joined the Baptist church in 1892 and remained a devout member until death. Funeral services were at Dunlap chapel on Thursday conducted by Rev. H. S. Early of Mattoon.

William M. Andrews died suddenly from pneumonia last Friday after a three day illness. Funeral held at home with Rev. Zeigler and Red Men lodge presence. Born November 3, 1862, in Marshall, he served as a civil engineer and army veteran, later a highway superintendent. Survived by sisters Fannie and Mary, and brother Simon F. Andrews. Supervisors Elect W. J. Forbeck Chairman in County Meet
The Board of Supervisors met April 20 with all members present. W. J. Forbeck of Anderson township was elected chairman. Committees were named including Improvements, Finance, Telephones, County Officers Reports, Insurance, Printing, Rules, County Claims, Township Poor Claims, Interurban Railroads, and Oil and Gas. The committee on county officers reports found small shortages in several accounts. The state's attorney was instructed to file friendly suits against ex officers to settle records. It was decided not to hold ex treasurers accountable for $2000 paid to them as supervisor of assessments. The printing committee was to seek bids for the coming year and a county highway superintendent may be appointed temporarily. The board adjourned after few bills were approved.
