Physician Labeled Scarlet Fever Suspect Arrested in Marshall
Dr A W Deihl of the Illinois public health department investigated a scarlet fever outbreak in Marshall with about 17 cases and led to the arrest of Prof E M Sparks for practicing medicine without a license on eight counts. He posted bond of 3000. Authorities say Sparks treated Louise Lickert Vern Taylor and others, including the Lickert girl for tonsillitis and influenza while ill with scarlet fever, a factor in school and venue closures. Mrs G M Waldron, who died from scarlet fever, was believed to have contracted it from her daughter. Sparks has prior guilty plea in June to a similar charge and continues to practice.
