Benton Ex-Service Men Push for Major Brown as Postmaster
A Benton led delegation of 35 ex service men in uniform visited Marion Sunday to urge Congressman J. Z. Denison to appoint Major Harry M. Brown postmaster of Benton. Denison was not in town. The group, citing Brown’s 14 years in the Benton office and WWI service including a Mexican border stint, predicted strong local support if a postmaster’s job were decided by a Benton vote. Led by Col. C. C. Smith, the contingent listed many officers and townsfolk among its members.

Pittsburg Mayor Arrests in Disturbing the Peace Case
Pittsburg Mayor Baker arrested John Hastings, Mrs. John Hastings, and Ross Thompson on a disturbance charge. Thompson rode with Mrs Hastings. Hastings fired on the buggy occupants, Thompson returned fire. Hastings wounded, others hurt. Thompson released next day on 2000 dollar bond. Deputy Sheriff Brady Jenkins also jailed Tony Monkus for illicit alcohol.

Fedora Thompson Buried Monday Funeral Held at St Pauls Baptist
Fedora Thompson a sixteen year old daughter of Mrs Reuben Titsworth of 1000 S Monrog Street was buried Monday after a funeral at St Pauls Baptist Church. The deceased was a granddaughter of Reth Thompeon who died three years ago and whose widow later married Mr Titsworth.

Civil War Veterans Hold Annual Williamson Reunion
Williamson County Soldiers and Sailors Reunion held at the fair last Thursday elected W D DeWoody Commander for the coming year with William Hendrickson as Adjutant and W D DeWoody named in the adjutant roster. Former Marion Woman Died
Relatives in Marion learned Friday of the death on September 16 of Mrs. Julia Goddard Harwood of Pueblo Colorado formerly of Marion. Born in Marion, she was daughter of James T. and Winifred Goddard and first married to W. R. Hall. Surviving children include H. L. Hall of New Mexico and W. R. Hall in France. After Hall’s death she married Mr. Harwood. one daughter Mrs. George Moodey of Durango also survives along with brothers Leroy A. Goddard of Chicago and H. T. Goddard of Mt. Carmel. Funeral services were held Saturday in Pueblo with interment there.

In Hurst on September 18 the Christian church was dedicated with a full program. H H Peters of Bloomington led the morning service after a 9:45 Bible school session. A basket dinner followed for locals and guests, then a 2:16 communion service featured solos by Karl Rope and Woodson Sparrow and performances by visiting musicians.

Finley Rodgers Buried After Community Funeral
The funeral for Finley Rodgers lifelong No. 3 mine engineer and Marion resident was conducted from his West Main Street home. Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows led the procession. Interment followed at Rosehill cemetery. Born March 1 1876 in Kentucky he died September 16 at age 45 6 15. He leaves a widow and siblings. He was a Christian church believer and a member of I O O F and Knights of Pythias.
