City officials moved to create Sewer District 1 after an injunction blocked the current disposal plant. A public hearing is scheduled for Monday October 31 to discuss approximately 226 603 01 dollars for a new disposal method due to a serious condition along Crab Orchard creek. Commissioners absent included Glags and Camins. Cheney Parish received 8242 74 for paving district 17. Spiller Lewis reappointed as assessor for sidewalk district 4. A plat for L Z Hunters first addition to Mason was filed in the northwest city area.

Barbecue Odors Ended The Herrin Game At Festival
In Herrin the Elks festival baseball game was halted in the fifth after barbecue aromas drew crowds behind the grandstand. Dr. Carl Baker donated the meat and prize cooks supplied sheep and hogs, serving 1600 fans. Mayor Pace spoke, L. A. Colp responded, and the event supported the Elks lift of a new $78,000 lodge home.

Bush Love Nest Ends in County Jail
Four people are jailed in Williamson County after Mattie Havens 16 of Bush and Edward Bareiter of St Louis wed amid family opposition. Bareiter and the groom face charges, while Mattie’s mother Mamie Havens and others are arrested for marriage legality issues and kidnapping. The couple eloped to Marion Illinois and were married.

William Alva Joplin seven months old son of William M and Carolina Joplin of St Louis died at home Saturday. Body shipped to Marion then Scottsboro for church funeral at Free Baptist with Rev John Browning. Interment Maplewood Cemetery. Joplin family recently moved from Scottsboro to St Louis. Also Mrs J M Lawson called to Milwaukee for daughter Mrs Jessie Bourne with husband Arthur Bourne in hospital. Lawson plans to bring children home. Mrs Barth’s eightieth birthday celebrated by H C White family and others including Herman Marsh Ora Joneson Noble Quiley and Harold Hood. Other guests attended from the Marion area.

A Marion party spent Sunday in the Sa line bottoms for a picnic and nutting outing. They had barbecue chicken, pork and other dishes, reporting a general good time. One Killed in Auto Accident Near West Frankfort
West Frankfort October 18 Peggy Grady 16 died after an auto wreck two miles south of West Frankfort Heights. Mrs Avery Stokes is not expected to live. The Stokes car left the road, struck a tree, and turned over. Two Grady brothers were uninjured. Kenneth and George Grady were tossed from the car. Probate Court granted Emma Benson administration of George W Benson estate after $2000 bond filed.

Dedication of $100,000 Methodist church at Benton
Crab Orchard residents Sam Motsinger and George Sturm attended the dedication of the new $100,000 Methodist church at Benton on Sunday morning. Bishop W A Quayle of St Louis preached the sermon and raised $23,000 in forty minutes to clear the church’s indebtedness. Dinner was served in the basement by the Ladies' Aid.

Marion Man Injured as Taxi Hits Buggy on East Main
William Ashby of Marion was badly hurt when Prentice Bryant of Pittsburg struck Ashby’s horse and buggy on East Main street. Eyewitnesses say Bryant could not avoid the crash and Ashby was on the wrong side of the road. The buggy overturned, killing the horse. Ashby was hospitalized in Herrin with severe injuries.

Lawson Family Returns Home From Milwaukee Visit
Mrs. J. M. Lawson of 809 West Main returned today from Milwaukee where she had been called by the illness of her daughter Mrs. Arthur Bourne. Mrs. Lawson's brother, daughter, and two grandchildren will reside with her for the present while Mr. Bourge remains in a Milwaukee hospital.

Paul Lowery arranged a boxing and wrestling exhibition for visitors from Sandford Coal Company at Cagle Park. The card opened with a four round draw Loy Hill vs Chick Candad, Bevo Hodge vs Joey Thomas also drew, Tomm y Davis beat Walter Keegan two falls, and Lowery drew with Joe Turner in a fifteen minute bout. The visit included mine tours before the visitors returned to Pennsylvania.
