Murder at Tie Plant Ends in Duel Between Men
A colored man known as Bunk Carroll is sought by police for the murder of Bobb Ruff, also colored, at a tie plant house. The pair, part of two shooting parties, woke to a riot about 1:30 a.m. Carroll allegedly threw a lamp, both fired, Ruff staggered and fell. Carroll fled and hasn’t been seen. Sheriff Thaxton arrived within about 40 minutes. Ruff, about 45, was married. Coroner’s jury, led by Coroner McCown, found death caused by Carroll and urged apprehension and holding.

Decrease in canning contracts noted by Agriculture
In Ingfield on November 7 the U S Department of Agriculture released figures showing 1921 tomato acreage under contract at 2 058 nine acres versus 6 000 plus in 1920. Sweet corn by factories this year totals 26 979 acres, down from 44 867 last year, with 27 factories reporting this year compared to 27 in 1920. Several other crop contracts and factory numbers are listed.

Baby Bellanto Dies in Hot Water Accident
In Herrin on Bridgy evening 20 month old Lyn del Frank Rich died after falling into a pan of boiling hot water left on the floor while the mother washed. A jury of H. S. Keller Henry Peterson Sam Jones Sam Eldridge Charles Oldani and C. Humphreys ruled the death accidental.
Presbyterian Institutes Held Across Cairo Presbytery
Sunday brought Presbyterian Institutes to churches in Cairo Presbytery with services and pulpit exchanges. Rev Goff of Marion preached in Saline county, others spoke in Williamson County including Rev Sabin in Marion and Carterville, Rev Teague in Ava, and Rev Mitchell in Herrin. Meetings continued Monday with Insitutes at Creal Springs and Mt Pleasant. A damaging crash near Christopher killed Jay Jones and seriously injured Henry Veach.

Thompsonville in Franklin county is set to receive electric lights under a signed contract with the C. I. P. S. Company for current and service. The Egyptian Electric Company of Marion, owned by Roy Reed, will wire two hundred Thompsonville houses and aims to finish before the G. I. P. S. Company extends high tension lines to the city. Reed returns to contracting with Marion headquarters and plans a local shop once Thompsonville work ends.

Herrin Man Held for Accident Involving Dead Boy
A coroner's jury finds that Paul Jacobs died after being struck by a car driven by Earl Neal near Herrin on November 3. Ed Walker testified the youths were scuffling in the street as the car approached. Neal swerved to avoid them, struck John Jacobs, and the boy died at the hospital minutes later. The jury bound Earl Neal over for action by the grand jury.

Mrs Emma Rummage wife of W F Rummage of Herrin died Monday afternoon after a six month illness. Born August 11 1875 she lived in the county all her life and leaves her husband and one daughter Mrs Ben Small of Marion. Surviving siblings reside in East St Louis Joliet Kans Seattle and Southern California. Funeral services Wednesday at 4 1 a m at the home with interment Mt Pleasant cemetery conducted by Dr H A Goff.

Special to the Rutv Velican Leader. Chicago November. Former Chicago labor leader Big Tim Murphy was found guilty today by a federal court jury before Judge K. M. Landiso on charges tied to a Dearboy Street mail robbery bid. Vincenzo Cosmando Eddie Gerrum and Paul Volant also convicted for complicity with Murphy. Counts include conspiracy and receiving stolen government property with maximum penalties of two years and ten thousand dollars or both.
