Marion Track Team Leads Benton Meet In Southern Illinois Action
The Mt. Vernon and Marion athletes dominated the Benton meet with Marion scoring 77 to Benton’s 9 as Wallace led with multiple firsts in sprints and field events. Sheriff Thaxton and deputies seized two illicit whiskey stills near the Union county line and locked them as evidence in Marion.

Coroner William McCown held an inquest at Carterville on Monday afternoon into the death of Miss Mae Brann who died Sunday. The jury including J. P. Huff, T. L. Cagle, R. P. Hampton, George W. Crowther, J. W. Hayton and Frank Hill returned a verdict that she drowned by her own hands.

Bus service to Mt Vernon eyed by Marion firm
L R Martin of West Frankfort, president of Southern Illinois Bus Line, visited Marion to pursue an auto bus line from Marion to Mt Vernon and intermediate points. John Reynolds a retired coal miner and father of R G Reynolds mine manager for France No 1 dropped dead at the farm home of Will Moak in Johnston City on Monday afternoon. He was ill and living with the Moaks since September. Coroner William McCown convened a jury which found death due to an undetermined cause with the body found in the barn and hogs having fed on him around the head and hands.
