Mr and Mrs B S Cowan of West Frankfort announce the body of their son Earl Cowan killed in action overseas in World War I has arrived in New York and will be brought to West Frankfort for burial in the coming days. He was the first casualty from West Frankfort in the war and the local American Legion post honors his memory. Mrs Cowan is a cousin of Lewis and Frank Jackson, farmers near Sunfield.

The funeral service for Myrtle Hill former Marion resident died at her parents home in Joppa Tuesday was conducted at Goddard Chapel Thursday with burial in Maplewood cemetery. Rev J H Davis of Granite City preached the sermon as many Marion friends attended.

Mrs Sanders Dies in Pittsburg After Prolonged Illness
Mrs. Thomas J. Sanders aged 78 of Williamson County died at her Pittsburg home Friday at 3 45 p m after years of dropsy. Born May 6 1843 she lived in the area all her life and had two marriages the first to Thomas Owens killed in the Civil War. She is survived by children Monroe Eddie Wills Sanders Thomas Sanders and Mrs D H Sherett plus several grandchildren and siblings. Funeral was at home Sunday with Rev Kennis, burial in the family cemetery. Miss Bernadine Strawn visited Albion after teaching in Marion last year.

Earl Gibson Opens Chance For Life At Mednard Penitentiary
Reports from the hospital at the southern Illinois penitentiary at Mednard say Taft Gibson the prison door keeper who accidentally shot himself in the abdomen Saturday evening is progressing. His father Sheriff James W Gibson of Murphysboro arrived early Tuesday and Mrs Gibson has stayed with Earl since the accident. The young man served in World War I and with the Illinois National Guard in 1916 on the Mexican border.
