Elburn Hunt, 18, son of Mr and Mrs Thm Hunt, was killed at Peabody No. 3 mine when struck between a coal car and a car and run over by two. He had worked as a trapper since November and was well regarded. Coroner’s jury ruled accidental death. Funeral Thursday at home with services by Reverend Spainhower and Dr. Gunn. Interment in local cemetery.

Otis Atnip Claims Self Defense In Kentucky Shooting
Otis Atnip aged 50 confessed to the sheriff in Vienna and again today that he shot Ward Kelley in self defense. He says Kelley attacked him with a razor while he was tending a fence. Atnip left work, went to the road, fired killing Kelley. Kelley was found dead Monday afternoon near Creal Springs after a speedy response.

Fairfield Feb 16 Rinard State Bank failed to open last Thursday after examiner Millard Weir found liabilities of 39000. Directors pledged to protect depositors and cover the shortage. Cashier M J Michaels issued 49000 in overdrafts to John W Spence, a grain broker, who filed for bankruptcy listing 61190 liabilities and 10940 assets.

Legion Police Raid Big Still at Carbondale
In Carbondale on February 16 the American Legion special police seized a still and mash at the R. T. Brooks home on West Main Street. Mrs. R. T. Brooks and Harry Snider were held on $1,000 bond on a state warrant for prohibition act violations. Evidence included a half keg of raisin mash, corn mash, a barrel of corn mash, copper still coils, and distillation gear. Brooks was away. he will be served with the warrant on arrival.

Mine No 9 of Consolidated Coal Co on the east side of the river shut down at quitting time to wait for the Big Muddy river to fall below levels permitting work again under Insurance rules.
