Mrs. Esther Elizabeth Yates widow of Enoch Yates died Friday night after a long life of service. Born in Johnson county on April 1 1853 she was 67 years 9 months and 19 days old. Survived by two children Henry and Maggie Yates and brothers Thomas Edmondson and Andy Edmondson. Funeral by Dr J W Cummins at home Saturday afternoon. Body shipped Sunday to Zion Pope County to be laid beside husband. Death due to cancer.

Testimony from Route 1 Carrier Mills inquest shows Pearl Schafer died from burns after her clothes caught fire at a cook stove. Lyman Jones reported John Stone sought help for Pearl Wednesday noon and they found her about a quarter mile east of her home. She walked home and died around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. jury ruled accidental catching clothes on fire caused her death.
