Marion voters approve bond for new school building

Marion residents authorize purchase of a site and erection of a school to relieve crowded conditions. Holland site chosen as the location with a total of 1 026 votes 749 men 276 women in favor and 1 026 opposed? The record shows 819 in favor for bond money and 141 against with a separate breakdown by gender. Site 1 to cost 8 750 with 123 men 62 women in favor and Site 2 to cost 1 500 with 648 men 213 women in favor.

Rev Beane conducts sixth Merion revival at the Presbyterian church with nightly sermons. Crowded houses and many converts mark the meetings as he emphasizes old time religion and personal salvation. A 84 year old man joined on Sunday. more attendees expected through the week with plans to avoid conflicts with outside evangelists.

Rev F W Spicer Dies in Odin at 70

Word arrives Marlow of the death of Rev F W Spicer at his Odin home at 7 15 Sunday morning. Former pastor of the Methodist church South he was presiding elder of the Salem district and left Marion two years ago for church leadership. He was about sixty years old and served in the British Army before coming to America. He leaves a wife. Funeral set for tomorrow at 8 00 p m with many friends expected to attend.

Marion coal dealer injured in midday auto accident

Mr. West a Marion coal dealer was run over near his home by an automobile driven by John Mitchell. He received immediate medical aid after the incident occurring about noon today.

Mrs Andrew Neely Die Near Creal Springs After Tuberculosis

The body of Mrs. Andrew Neely passed through Marion en route to Jonesboro for burial. She died Saturday evening at 7 30 at her father's home three miles southwest of Creal Springs after several months with tuberculosis. Her mother Mrs James Fowler is sister of the late John R Sanders of ibl elty.

Marion officials tour East to study paving options

Mayor D. D. Hartwell and City Engineer Frank Payne traveled northward with plans to inspect paving styles along a five mile stretch near Washington. They will compare brick and other hard road systems used in Baltimore Philadelphia and New York as Marion eyes new paving. Payne will also attend the Schuyt Interurban meeting in New York City Tuesday replacing the original Saturday date.

Miner Raymond McGill Crushed in Peabody No. 3 Slate Fall

Raymond McGill a miner in the northwest part of town suffered a severe injury at Peabody No 3 when slate fell on him. He was transported by ambulance and the full extent of his injuries was not yet known but officials did not expect a fatal outcome.

The February term of Circuit court convened this morning with Judge D T Hartwell on the bench. The session began by selecting the grand jury foreman Henry Wilson of Herrin and proceeding to the normal duties of the day.

Special to the Republican Leader Harrisburg Feb 7 engineer Frank Lancaster and fireman Simon Oscar Hazeldon of Mt. Carmel are drowned after Big Four train 43 plunges from a weakened trestle over the Wabash River near Vincennes Indiana. The wreck occurred after the engine slowed on the bridge as high water rose. bodies were not recovered by noon. Lancaster leaves a daughter in Harrisburg Mrs Brown whose husband is a local switchman.

Commissioners Bring Suit to Condemn Highway Right of Way

Commissioners of Lake Creek Township filed a condemnation suit Monday against Elizabeth Harper to obtain a two tract right of way for the Logan Lee Highway through Williamson County. Illinois townships file petitions to submit liquor issue at spring elections. Anti saloon forces push in Rock Island Moline and Davenport across the river.
