The new Taig is nearly finished and the old building will be vacated Saturday night. Opening night is set for Wednesday February 9 with feature films at five and ten cent prices. The first serial installment The Girl and the Girl will star Miss Helen Holmes as the girl.
Mrs Elza Cash entertained a select group of ladies at 1206 North Van Buren Street with a one o clock luncheon. The decorations were pink and white and the table lit by pink candles. Afterward guests played progressive 500 in the afternoon.
Ed M Spiller attended a Public Utilities Commission session to discuss a gas plant proposal in Johnston Herrin and Cartherville counties. The commission extended hearings hours but time ran short as a railroad case delayed proceedings. attorney Benjamin Abishuler remained to handle the case.
Arrangements for a special train from Carbondale tomorrow evening to attend the Marion Township high school versus University High of Carbondale noon today. Prof Coleman and Jean Hurkhart list student and non student riders, extra coaches attached to 6 45 train. Returning Marion train about 10 30. Marion hopes for win and big local crowd to root for them.

C B Walker of Kankakee and Daisy Walker of West Vienna obtained a marriage license. E E Webb appeared in Herrin in conjunction with the transaction.
The Johnson County Farmers Institute met at New Burnsides with attendees from Marion. Rev J S Gunn spoke on farming in Scotland and road impact on farming. Logan of the state agricultural college lectured on soil buildup. Prof Troy Felts discussed farm conservation and waste, with G W Smith noting 100 year progress except roads.
A morning partial solar eclipse occurred from about 9 to 11 o clock with the zenith around 1. People watched through smoked glass as the event unfolded. It was visible only partly in the United States and Mexico, not in Alaska or nearby Canada. Upcoming eclipses on July 29 and December 24 will not be visible in the United States, while a moon eclipse on July 14 will be visible there.
