Presbyterian Woman's Club Holds Church Meeting
The Presbyterian Woman's Club met at the church on Thursday evening with strong attendance. A light piano duet by Mrs Goddard and Miss Florence Goff preceded an old fashioned sing. Papers covered The Old Testament World and The Leading Countries and Chief Cities. Speakers included Mrs Oldham Paisley on The Leading Rivers and Miss Louise Cooper on The Land of Palestine. The devotional theme Courage was led by Mrs Henry Gantz from Psalm 27. Several new members joined, and a social followed. The next meeting will be December 29 under the social committee with a social program.

Miners Wives Held Over Liquor Possession in Kansas
In Pittsburg Kansas on December 17 state troops and prohibition agents arrested seven men and three women for possessing liquor unlawfully. The women include Mrs Mary Brattatory, Mrs Mary Skubit and Mrs Marie Delaney, wife of a South Hadley miner, plus Mrs Fannie Wimsler widow of Franklin. The group are linked to striking miners under orders from Alexander Howatt, former head of the United Mine Workers in the state.

Soldier Body Enroute Home for Private Sullins
The body of Private Harry Sullins will arrive in Ozark on Saturday December 17 and burial will be near his mother. He died in France on October 28 1918 after being wounded in the Meuse Argonne drive. He was 22, son of L G Sullins and married to Carol Taylor. He was a Baptist Mason and MWA member. Survivors include his wife and brother and sister-in-law in Illinois. Attending the funeral are locals and relatives from Marion and area.

Despite bad weather a sizable Marion crowd attended the Florenz Orchestral Quartette concert at the high school Friday evening. The quartet Eva Freeman Florenz Dippel Joan Wiendziela and Clarissa Dippel performed popular and classical pieces with humorous readings. The event helped raise funds for the Pow silage equipment and for an afflicted family in Scottsboro with a $20 contribution to the Henry Spies family.

John W Shaw of Harrisburg was made receiver to oversee one property and preserve both mines in working order. The mines near Equality and near Harrisburg employed about 200 miners and had been idle for days, deteriorating conditions.
