Herrin Man Killed Self After Threat to Wife
Harry Carter 27 of Herrin shot himself after reportedly snapping a pistol at his wife Emma in their home on Saturday morning. He chased to Herrin Hospital where he died about 11 a.m. He had been released from Anna State Hospital last week as cured. Coroner’s jury labeled the death as an act in personal crisis. Funeral services were held Monday in Herrin.

Home Destroyed in Fire and Weir Funeral Held
A Scottsboro home owned by Ben Johnson was burned Sunday evening destroying all possessions. A 12 year old ill with pneumonia was rescued. Donations to aid the Johnson family were solicited through W. A. Bandy. Funeral services for Louis R. Weir of Galatia were held Sunday at the Primitive Baptist church with Masonic rites at Rose Hill Cemetery. Weir, 69, had been a member of Fellowship Lodge 59 for 25 years.

Thousands visit scene of high waters Sunday
Murphysboro crowds rode Bryan’s train to Grand Tower to view the Mississippi flood. About five hundred residents and others joined auto parties traveling to the flooded district. The train with 13 coaches stopped where water covered the track, remaining over two hours to let spectators watch the valley between Grand Tower and Johnston City.

Fort Worth, April 25. The Trinity river jumped twenty six feet in twelve hours reaching 33.6 feet and sweeping the city with its worst flood. A seven and a half inch rainfall began last night and continues this morning. Large areas inundated and damage immense. Two deaths reported as two women swept from a tree where they sought refuge. Fifteen hundred homeless.

West Frankfort Gala Illumination for Odd Fellows Event
Work began yesterday afternoon on street lights and decorations for West Frankfort 103rd anniversary Odd Fellows and Rebekahs celebration to be held Wednesday.
