New Orpheum Theatre Building Under Rapid Construction
Work has begun on the new Orpheum Theatre in Marion. The modern structure will feature 65 foot frontage, arcade entrance with heavy chain canopy, pressed brick and terra cotta facade, leaded glass windows, marble wainscoting, two ticket offices, and separate access for road shows and movie audiences. The stage spans 36 by 30 feet with a 29 foot six inch arch, six basement dressing rooms, and a heating plant. Owners Reid Yemm and Hayes run a theatre circuit, with this Marion project set to be among the best.

President Otis Glass of the Marion baseball association said the game scheduled for next Sunday with Herrin at Herrin is canceled. The April 24 game will be played with Herrin on their home diamond as the teams adjust for a late start. Marion opens the season May 1 at home against Eldorado.
