Fellowship Lodge No 89 A F and A M held an afternoon and evening session with about three hundred attendees for the Master Mason degree work. Two candidates were raised in the afternoon, a social hour followed, then a large supper. The night work featured the third candidate and a long list of visiting lodges and officers from multiple cities and states.

The 40th annual session of the Southern Illinois Teachers Association closed in Carbondale with a strong program and a special train to Williamson County. Marion and Williamson counties were honored as Arno Bratten of the Marion Township High School became president. Other officers include Miss May Hawkins, First VP. Miss May Taggart, Second VP. Mrs. Kate Hartline, Recording Secretary. Chas. A. McGinnis, Corresponding Secretary. BE. W. Sutton, Financial Secretary. J. F. Karber, Treasurer. and Mary Crawford named to the executive committee. The committee urged meetings in Carbondale, Roy Jordan of Herrin retiring president.

The Modern Woodmen of America camps in Williamson county hold a quadrennial convention in Marion on Wednesday April 6 with 12 camps sending delegates to the state convention in Galesburg starting May 6. John Paris Shot and Killed in Dewmaine Inquest Opens
In Dewmaine on April 2 the coroner's inquest into the death of John Paris a colored barber found shot in the back of the head opened. A revolver lay near the body and Mrs Renno Meeks and Milo Phillips were held for grand jury action with allegations Mrs Meeks fired the fatal shot and Mat Phillips supplied the gun. Miss Jewell Robertson attended a teachers’ association in Carbondale and passed through Marion en route home.

Home Burndown as Veterans Meet Reunion Plans
Fire destroyed a house north of the city, owned by Mrs Eloy Branch and home to the Roberts family. Dr J W Cummins pastor of Practicne Methodist church and Shiloh Veterans Association chaplain left Friday morning to join the veterans at their annual reunion in Cairo. Furnishings were saved but the home suffered complete loss.

A sizable U M W A delegation from Franklin County joined Marion and other locals in a Thursday gathering at the public Square. Ed Carbine of Springfield urged firsthand study of conditions at the Fluorspar mines in Rosiclare. The group then traveled to Hardin County via Reevesville and Golconda to inspect access routes to Rosiclare, with participation from Benton West Frankfort Christopher Herrin Johnston City and Car terville and Williamson.

Mrs. Mary Jane Felts widow of Bud Felts died at her Carbondale home on Tuesday at age 44. Funeral held Thursday afternoon with attendees from Williamson County including Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Bilis and Mrs. Frank Ellis of Marion. Raised near Marion she had lived in Carbondale for years and was aunt to B. A. and Frank Ellis.

Springfield reports a weekly crop and weather synopsis from the U S Department of Agriculture. Farm work slowed by strains, many areas show one to two inches of moisture while a Monday Tuesday freeze chilled the state. Low temperatures ranged from 12 to 28 degrees with east to west variation. Fruit trees in bloom or budding suffered likely heavy losses, grains damaged, shrubbery harmed.
