Ray O Robison grand junior warden of the grand lodge of Texas visited Marfa Lodge No 596 during a June 13 meeting. A 1960 Marfa High School graduate, he earned Masonic degrees in 1964, led the lodge as master in 1969, served as district deputy grand master in 1980, and holds many Scottish Rite and Shrine roles. The lodge elected its yearly officers and set July 13 open installations in Alpine with a public barbecue and program at the Masonic Hall Fort Davis Highway. Public invited.

The Marfa Independent announces an early deadline for advertising and news submissions on Monday July 1 at 5 p.m due to the July 4 holiday. The weekly paper will circulate Wednesday morning instead of Thursday. Both The Marfa Independent and Marfa Print Shop close Thursday July 4 and Friday July 5.
