Gary James producer of The Eyes of Texas filmed the Presidio County Courthouse in Marfa Monday for a segment to air later this year. Wiemers receives top federal heroism award in Marfa
Parker Wiemers was honored at a Marfa Rotary Club luncheon with the U.S. Department of Transportation and FAA's Secretary's Award for Heroism for rescuing a pilot during a December 22, 1984, aircraft incident at Marfa Municipal Airport. He received a gold medal, ribbon, and certificate from FAA Southwest Region Director C.R. Tex Melugin Jr. A proclamation from Mayor Jane Shurley accompanied the recognition.

District Court Term Yields Multiple Probation and Fines
District Judge Alex Gonzales presided over eleven cases this term. Javier Carrasco of Pecos drew a 10 year probated sentence for marijuana possession. Ramon Quintana of Marfa received a 5 year probated sentence for burglary of a vehicle. Jerry Rivera of Fort Davis was sentenced to 3 years in the Texas Department of Corrections for credit card abuse. Jesse Mancha fined 2000 dollars and given an 8 year probated sentence for theft of property. Dennie D. Callahan of Presidio assessed 10000 dollars for failure to appear. James Louis Warren of Washington State received years in the Texas Department of Corrections for marijuana possession and probation violation. William E. Grandon of Dallas given 3 years in the Texas Department of Corrections and probation violation. Diane Wright of Alpine assessed 500 dollars fine and a 4 year probated sentence for possession of a controlled substance. Armando Calderon Ramos of Kermit found not guilty of possession of marijuana. Marta Pena Baeza of Bedford pled guilty to marijuana possession, assessed 50000 dollars fine and 50 years probation. Juan Alvarez Muro convicted for possession of a controlled substance with 1000 dollars fine and 10 years probation.
