Immigration SAW rules finalized under new bill provisions
Chief Patrol Agent Hugh J. Rushton announces final USDA regulations for the Special Agricultural Worker SAW program. Eligible aliens may adjust to temp resident status after 90 man-days of seasonal agricultural work within 12 months ending May 1, 1986. Applications run June 1, 1986, to November 30, 1988 at Service Legalization Centers in Lubbock Dallas El Paso or at overseas consular offices.

Marfa ISD trustees approve band uniforms and teacher contracts
Marfa Independent School District trustees met on June 9 approving bids for new band uniforms as current ones reach ten years old. Presidio County seeks study grant for industrial park feasibility
Presidio County applies to the Economic Development Administration for 20000 to study the feasibility and ideal location of an industrial park and freight forwarding facility in Presidio. The plan funds 15000 from state and federal sources and 5000 local. Methodists Oppose Lottery At New Mexico Conference
United Methodist delegates at the 112th New Mexico Annual Conference in Glorieta NM voted to oppose any state lottery in New Mexico or Texas. The NM Conference urged members to work with legislators, calling gambling a regressive tax and urging support for candidates to defeat a lottery. It also urged zero growth in General Conference funding and urged concrete budget reordering, while seeking non controversial methods from the Board of Global Ministries and shifting emphasis to the Board of Church and Society if needed.
