Marfair Arts and Crafts Fair Opens Saturday in Marfa
The Marfair Sesquicentennial Arts and Crafts Fair begins this Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Marfa Activity Center and Coffield Park with childrens activities and booths from Marfa Presidio Fort Davis Alpine and El Paso. No admission charge. Manny Razo injured in mid April transfer to El Paso for continued treatment fundraiser set up.

Wiemers to be honored for heroism in Marfa ceremony
Parker Wiemers will receive the Department of Transportation Medal for Heroism from FAA Southwest Regional Director C.R. Tex Melugin Jr at El Paisano Hotel in Marfa at noon next Tuesday June 17. In December 1984 Wiemers pulled Fred Dumas from a runaway Stinson aircraft that circled the airport, risking his life to save Dumas and prevent grave damage to two planes and nearby fuel.

MISD approves two stage refurbishing bids in Marfa
Marfa ISD trustees approved four thousand three hundred seventy five dollar drapery and curtain installation for Gregg Auditorium and six thousand five hundred dollar lighting system upgrade. The plan includes new cyclorama settings, hardware, and eight ellipsoidal lights with six fresnels. Superintendent Carl Robinson described the upgrades as part of a continuing district facilities program amid summer renovations.

Amtrak Train Held Up Near Alpine After Freight Derailment
An eastbound Amtrak train was held in Marfa from 11 p.m. Thursday until 2:30 p.m. Friday after a freight derailment near Alpine Junction six miles west of Alpine. Greyhound buses were initially summoned for 268 passengers but the plan was canceled and passengers were allowed off to walk around Marfa. After emergency track repairs at the derailment site, the train resumed to San Antonio.
