Dump site search continues in Texas waste plan
The Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Authority renewed its statewide search after Land Commissioner Garry Mauro blocked a proposed Hudspeth County site. The effort, costing up to 3.5 million dollars per search, targets south Texas to the Blackland prairie and aims to finish by summer 1989, with penalties looming if current sites in South Carolina, Washington, and Nevada deny access.

Six cases heard in 83rd district court
Judge Alex Gonzales presided over six cases in the 83rd Judicial District Court on Wednesday. Daniel Ramirez Gonzales faced 50 pounds of marijuana possession with a $1,000 fine and seven years confinement, probated seven. Frank Marquez received three years Deferred Adjudication for burglary of a building with restitution to Presidio County for attorney fees. Jose Luis Baltazar was charged with burglary of a building and given five years Deferred Adjudication with restitution to Alfredo Rodriguez for one third of damages. Humberto Orona Medrano faced possession of 50 pounds or less but more than five and was fined $2,500 with 10 years confinement, probated 10 years. Butch Hadsell, Class A Misdemeanor for delivery of marijuana, got $500 fine and one year Deferred Adjudication. Billy Null faced Class A Misdemeanor for delivery of marijuana and was fined $1,500 with one year Deferred Adjudication.

Three charged with possession in Presidio and Jeff Davis Counties
US Border Patrol officers arrested three people last week on marijuana possession charges. Jose Jaramillo 19 and Sara Jaramillo Mendoza 21 of Hobbs New Mexico were taken into custody on Highway 17 about 16 miles north of Marfa after tips from Presidio County officers. About 24 pounds were found concealed inside a pickup camper. They were arraigned in Jeff Davis County with $25,000 bonds and released on bond. A third man identified as Rodriguez who was in Presidio County was arrested June 4 late evening six miles south of Marfa on U S 67, facing about 40 pounds of marijuana in a tool box. He was arraigned in Marfa with a $25,000 bond. Rodriguez was indicted by the Presidio County Grand Jury Monday.
