Marfa Weather Watch Sees Mixed Rain and Warm Spells
In 1985 precipitation exceeded the five and ten year averages at 17.41 inches versus 16.82 and 16.80. The mass of that rain, 17.13 inches, occurred before Oct 17 1985. Since then through May 25 1986 only 1.16 inches fell, with January 1986 totaling .53 inches. May 25 1986 brings 2.22 inches, suggesting more rain to come, affecting crops like salted peanut but pleasing visitors with mild temperatures.

Ruidosa man indicted for livestock theft
J D Turner, 69, of Ruidosa, indicted for stealing four cattle and three horses from Emilio Fuentes. Turner, charged with theft, appeared before District Judge Alex Gonzales, bond set at 10000. He claimed Fuentes owed him for hay, but allegedly stopped at a livestock auction between Marfa and La Grange. Turner arrested in La Grange, returned to Marfa, posted bond and released.

Scott Penrod Named New United Methodist Pastor
Scott Penrod, 32, is named pastor of First United Methodist Church in Marfa and will lead his first service Sunday. A United Theological Seminary graduate, he earned a New Mexico State University degree in 1982. Formerly a salesman, he and wife Vikki and their 8 month old son Breck will relocate to Marfa. Vikki plans to finish teaching math in Troy, Ohio before joining him.

New WTA Manager Diaz Takes Fort Davis Post
Tony Diaz, longtime West Texas Utilities Co. employee since 1971, has become manager of the Fort Davis local office, replacing Gene Reinberg. A Knox City native and 1967 high school graduate, Diaz previously served as serviceman in Ozona and later in Knox City, where he chaired the Lions Club and helped the Volunteer Fire Department. He and his wife Stella have three children Denise, Ann Marie, and Anthony, and members attend the Catholic Church.
