A note to readers about an autograph event with Dr Cecilia Thompson at The Marfa National Bank. The two volume History of Marfa and Presidio County will be signed from 10 am to noon and 1 to 4 pm, sponsored by the Presidio County Historical Commission, with emphasis on local history and community support.
The Texas WIC program promotes prenatal nutrition and nutrition counseling for undernourished mothers and infants up to five years old. It operates across Marfa Alpine Presidio Fort Davis Marathon Valentine Van Horn Sierra Blanca Ft Hancock and Dell City with region offices and strict income eligibility.
Jaime J Vasquez of Fort Worth has been selected for inclusion in the 1985 Outstanding Young Men of America. The honor comes from nominations by senators, congressmen, governors, mayors, and civic groups. Vasquez, son of Conrado and Mrs. Vasquez of Marfa, is a 1979 Marfa High School graduate and 1983 Texas A&M alum, then a junior at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine Fort Worth.
Presidio County Stock Show Committee schedules a meeting for Monday December 9 at 7 p.m. in the Marfa High School Agriculture Building to discuss event arrangements and oversight.
The Marfa Chamber of Commerce announces two December evening shopping nights on December 12 and 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. to help residents finish Christmas gift buying. Shoppers are urged to mark the dates and enjoy extended store hours during the holiday season.

Christa McAuliffe, Concord, N H, will deliver live lessons beamed to 80 90 systems via satellite, cable, and PBS outlets.
Texas Land Commissioner Garry Mauro announced that Tahal Ltd of Israel identified a Reeves County site for a demonstration dryland farm. The plan blends pistachio trees with intercropped asparagus, promising profitability to attract private partners, with Tech UT and Texas A&M contributing funds.

A Christmas Celebration at the Marfa Activity Center next Wednesday begins at 7 p.m. under the dual directorship of Shawna Ford and Marilyn Orr. Elementary choir opens, band performs between choirs, and a high school Drama Department skit is included. Admission is canned food.
Louis Holzheuser was reelected chief at the Monday night meeting. Jerry Garnett became assistant chief. Walter Garnett was reelected president with Terry Allison and Bud Rumfield as trustees. Clem Boulter continues as secretary treasurer and Pat Ryan as chaplain. Roland Jensen named captain of Company One with Orlando Villanueva as lieutenant. Alfredo Brijalba named captain of Company Two with Bob Johnson as lieutenant. Ryan remains Fire Marshall with Armando Hernandez as assistant. Officers to be installed at January banquet.
