Forty two press associations gathered in St Louis this week. The event drew journalists from multiple regions and is expected to generate forthcoming coverage and discussions on industry standards.
The Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota comprising 416000 acres will be opened for settlement Augusta. Registration starts July 5 and ends July 23.
Delegates in Springfield have balloted for over a week seeking the party’s nominee for governor without success. Voters are urged to participate next Saturday, as democracy depends on electing the right man. Reep ts withdraws, Folk leads the field and plans to intensify his canvass and reach voters before the convention.
The Hon. Joseph W. Folk spoke for about two hours in the Marble Hill courthouse to a large crowd. He denounced boodlers, urged strict law enforcement, and was introduced as Missouri’s next governor by Hon. J. Welker. Afterward H. R. Oglesby spoke on his candidacy for Railroad and Warehouse Commissioner.
To the Democratic Voters of Bollinger County a speaker appeals for confidence and notes long family ties and deep roots in Bollinger as part of a political message from a local candidate.
Mapisos R. Suivi appeals Bollinger and eleven county Democrats to rally for the May 21 primary after the 1904 congressional committee decision. He expresses pride in birth county and pledges honest work if elected, noting limited time to canvass and hoping for broad support across the district.
Will Mayfield College plans a series of commencement activities in a Baptist church next week. Principal F. J. Hendershot will deliver the Barca laureate address What to Seek First Sunday night. Silver medal contest Wednesday features Will F Wells Webster Davault J R Abernathy Ida Williams Bird Estes Ethel Stevens Elke Tomlinson. Thursday graduates compete for gold medals with Alva Jamison Ella M Fulkerson Christine Myrtle Dunn Mae Grant R Arthur Moyers. Music by the music class with Professor and Mrs Hendershot. Admission 10 cents Thursday night. Also an ad promotes Defiance Cold Water Starch noting 16 oz packages and no chemicals.
A promotional note claims Defiance Starch prints 16 ozs on every package. It urges users to demand Defance to save time and money and avoid sticky irons, promising that Defiance never sticks.
Bollinger county court met May 9 1904 with full membership. Dr. Burton paid 11 for smallpox treatment. school fund bench of D E Hahn approved at 200. Road surveys authorized for petitioners C H Pape Ed McKey Hy Ceapes George Hahn J Crites G Revelle 150 salary for attorney. Various private surveys ordered for T N McKelvy J L Fulton M S Harris H Seabrough I D Robinson R W Statler J W Reilly 21 for board of equalization and 25 for county surveyor services. Randoph James to state hospital No 4 at private expense. Numerous small payments for laymen jury board room rents poll book returns election expenses voting booth setup and related services. Errors in James P Gibbs assessment corrected.

Reports include tax levies, county clerk statements, and local notices from Lutesville Banner and Marble Hill Press. The Pioneer Cooperative factory fire and local political sentiment in Folk area are noted.
Our Correspondents report days of rain with farmers preparing corn, a district conference at Oak Ridge drawing few locals, and Dr Blaylock adding an office near the post office. The Talley land may change hands, young folks attend a birthday party, postmaster PD Seabaush takes up carpentry, political talk favors Folk, and a reaper is noted.
Health is good except for colds in the county. F M Snider and children spent Sunday in Leopold. Corn planting is the order of the city though Judge Snider says it is too late. Miss Corn Snider visited cousins Ida and Effie Snider. I W Til of Advance was in Clippard Friday on business. Orley Hosea works for F M Brown this spring. Mrs J P Allman is sick with cold this week. Mr and Mrs M Snider made a business trip to Jackson this week. News is scarce with good wishes to Tuk Press. I am Black Eyes.
Health is good and residents report corn planting nearly complete while fishing dominates local activity. W R Farrar and wife visited N B Cole and wife Sunday. Strawberry crops are praised by the few local growers. Rev A J Lincoln preached at Coles Chapel. Aubuchon, a grocery salesman, rode through on rounds Thursday. W R Cory, leading mill man, left for Poplar Bluff last week and will be missed in the community.
Old Gazette records a rainy day delay in corn planting, visits by residents from Greenbrier and Hear St Louis, a May birth at the Pape home, a robbery at T J Moss Tie Co with about 500 in currency and checks, and a traveling duo seen in town heading to Advance.
