Writers and percussionists will converge in Cape Girardeau for a multi day event at the end of next week. The town anticipates a lively spell as editors and drummers hold readings and performances.
Heavy storms swept the southwest last week causing massive destruction. Snyder Oklahoma, a town of about a thousand people, was wiped off the map with over a hundred dead and many injured. Additional damage occurred across Oklahoma Indian Territory and Texas from heavy rains and swollen streams.
The Press celebrates twenty five years in publication and notes brighter prospects than ever. It thanks readers for continued patronage and pledges to maintain low prices and high effort to sustain confidence and support.
The Cape Girardeau Republican quotes a prosecuting attorney saying he has “put the lid on” in Butler county. The Citizen scorns Old Joe and mocks attempts to evict disreputable residents, noting prosecutions require outside lawyers and deriding local complacency.

The Missouri Bar Association awards for its twenty third annual meeting will take place in Kansas City on Thursday and Friday May 15 and 19. Judge Jobe LD Lawson, dean of the University of Missouri law department and president of the association, will deliver the address.
The Bollinger County Sunday School Association invites all attendees to meet at Sedgewickville on August 24 1905. Notify county secretary or president and send subject by July 1 for publication by July 10. Free entertainment for speakers. ministers should attend. names and addresses to L C Tariffith recording secretary for blanks.
The Whitewater Valley Stock Farm offers first class stock both bred and sold. It lists a fancy herd of short horns and thoroughbred hogs, with specialty in mules and horses. JT Esris, professor, is associated with the listing.
The court ordered payment of interest from listed individuals including A. J. Master and M. G. Richards, plus additional security from J. M. Welker and others. Foreclosures, fund statements, and various allowances followed, with several clerical and county officer fees approved. A fly ravaged wheat outlook dimmed harvest hopes while local tradesmen and families, including Eli R James and J W McKinsey, note carpentry, a stave factory resuming work, and a Mayfield Creek incident involving Bailey Walker. Authorities reportedly declined a warrant, and Walker left the state by the deadline.
The new bridge over the Mississippi River at Thebes NL replaces the ferry and shortens schedules by about an hour. It connects St Louis to Southeast Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas with unbroken steel track. Two daily trains run St Louis bound and a buffet sleeper operates on certain trains.
