Dr John M. Finney Jr of Cape Girardeau is improving his farm with a new residence expected to be occupied soon. James Vangilder is on the sick list. Farmers are behind with work as wheat looks well. Mrs. Mary Poston is quite sick. Mrs. John Henley and her daughter visit Mr. and Mrs. Vangilder. Mr. Henley accompanied them last Sunday. Town Ledger.
Mrs Permelia Ridings of Hurri cane visited her father Samuel Hawn and family Thursday. Miss Blanche Wallis stays with grandparents the last weeks. Uncle Tom Hawn and wife visited daughter Mrs M A Shrum. Miss Columbia Hawn went to Bertrand to visit sister Mrs Eliza J Strickland. Charlie Hawn and family went to Fredericktown to visit sister Mrs Henry Lee, returning Friday Jay.
Huskey army worms have appeared in our area and are running the meadows. Benjamin Ramsey, visiting relatives here, returned to Commerce. J Mt Ramney led a singing on Sunday night for local youths with good attendance. Health is very good. Joan Henderson and wife visited at Waele tem Howe's Sunday.
Community notes report visits from Aunt Mat Long and Joseph Davenport family. George Marshall of Patton passed through. Juan Henderson suffered a minor fall while working on the church house. Replanting corn is ongoing and peaches are expected to be plentiful. Otto Robertson welcomed a boy, and John H. Short celebrates a long-awaited birth. Lodge opens two stores and M. B. Minter began selling goods.
Hickory Grove area reports Alva Crader is ill. Colbert Snider has a newborn daughter and is joyful. Fishing yields several good catches. T P Lesley improving after a week of illness. Tilden Crader seeks work in Cairo Illinois then plans to visit sister Sallie Langston in Welanga Illinois. Mr and Mrs Thomas Brown guests of Crader family last Sunday. Farmers begin planting and replanting corn amid ongoing field work. Mrs Roddie Creath of Edna visits her parents D F Cruder and Mrs Holoman Shanks. Shanks family members and others are mentioned in local tontes and community updates.
Lee Nanney holds the contract to teach the next term. Miss Laura Brown and Amanda Stratton attended church at Hickory Grove last Sunday. Rev. W. T. Brown visited Advances last Thursday. Rev. Joseph Lestie preached to a large congregation at Hickory Grove last Sunday. Mrs. Jane Welch sold a fine horse recently. Mrs. Catherine Crader is ailing with chills. Mrs. Thomas Brown has been on the puny list but is improving.
The Misses Durley of Marquand visited J H Whitener. Mr and Mrs Moses Bess and Mr John Sanders of Rock Point attended Union church. Sanders secured employment at the Barkeye mine in Fredericktown. R F Watts attended church for the first time in months. Mrs Rachel Swift visited Grandma Snider at J W Davenport's. The ridge and Flatwoods crops are safe with warm weather aiding growth. Prayer meeting at Uncle Pink Hoffman's Thursday. Rev Fulbright of Marvin College filled Rev Wood's Union appointment. Bro Wood preached funeral in Farming ton. Mrs Wood and children spent Sunday nearby and attended church. Several Sunday school workers plan to attend the Patton Sunday school convention May 18.
