Auction slated for March 20 1919 listing 2 bron mares several young stock including yearlings and calves, Jersey cows and high grade Shorthorns, numerous farm implements, wagons, harnesses, furniture, and hay. Terms require cash for items under ten dollars and six month credit for larger purchases with bankable notes at 6 percent interest. Sale begins at a specified hour with lunch provided on the grounds.
In a Republican controlled House a six door executive session tested security as Dr G H Robinson Legion Sanitary Corps spoke. Debates covered a Missouri wartime records bill and a state health board for venereal disease clinics with $417000 from the federal government. Senate and House committees favored bills on child abandonment consent age for marriage and protections for women and minors.
C. R. Baxes of Whitewater defends state reforms and voter protections in Missouri, urging support for progressive measures on education, road funding, and liquor laws. He rebuts claims that Bollinger County is hostile to reform, citing General Pershing praise and calls for improved school conditions, facilities, and wages.
From Beaufort Luxemburg the Marble Hill Press and readers publish a reader letter note. The writer says this is the first letter to the home paper since arriving and mentions being here eight months.
Corr Winer Hanne recalls three months in France with the Army’s grim front lines. He describes shelling at Whiz Bang Mill, gas attacks with masks on from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and a four day outpost stint near an enemy line. After advancing to Luxembourg and Beauford, he notes the armistice and ceasing fire at 11 a.m. Acknowledging 150 infantry and other units, he writes to fellow readers of The Press.
The 1918 income tax office will be open at the courthouse where free consults are offered on obligations under the new law. Hours from 9 to 5. Filing required for thousands previously unaffected. Unmarried individuals with net income of 1000 or more in 1918 and married couples with dependents earning 2000 or more must file. Keep this matter from being neglected.
