The Island Mystery in Dick Rodney Adventure

In this chapter three sailors, Hislop Tom Lambourne and Dick Rodney, on a remote island uncover a carved rock bearing an old inscription by Alphonso de Albuquerque. A theft of biscuits and gear raises suspicion as a mysterious figure watches from the cliff above. A rockfall nearly mortally injures Hislop, heightening fear of hidden dangers and a possible intruder on the island.

Two King Penguins From Antarctic Reach New York Zoo

Two baby king penguins were brought from a southern volcanic island near Tasmania to New York, with their parents dying on the voyage. Now orphans, they live at Central Park Zoo. The birds, unable to fly, swim well and stand upright, resembling woolly bears from behind as they cry for fish and try to feed from each other’s beaks. King penguins are large Antarctic birds, part of a small, striking class.

The piece shifts to a surreal Dead Sea scene and a San Francisco stabbings tale, then a Michigan deer law joke and Roosevelt’s Rough Riders farewell remark on not getting gay.
