M. F. Dustapr of Jacksonville TfL, ex-treasurer of the national committee, attacked Treasury partiality after noting about 200 million in government funds deposited in New York banks. He cited recent statements showing New York clearing banks hold 215 million in capital, surplus, profits and deposits loaned out, while St. Louis banks hold 4 million and Chicago about 7 million, all drawing no interest on government funds.

The Caruthersville Democrat reports a Tyler Land and Timber wagon scene at Tyler Missouri on December 30. While men attended a box of mentum, the horses backed toward the river, were drowned, and the wagon slid into forty feet of water, taking the animals from sight.

Fred Schlemmer, recently in Scott county, visited Henry Feiler last week. Fred Feiler visits Tanesville each Sunday evening. Look out swirls The Robbins Brothers will soon build a sawmill near the neighborhood.
The Caruthersville Democrat notes the region offers remarkable yields and self sufficiency. An acre yields 200 to 500 bushels of crops, 350 to build a year round house, 200 gallons of cane syrup, four tons of hay per acre, and fruit from 100 peach trees by year three. Hogs, millet and bees require minimal care and fertilization boosts returns. The climate promises an easier living with no mortgage and year round vegetables.
A recent fire caused costly damage in Leadwood. Bloomfield plans a new courthouse with an estimated cost between 16000 and 28000 dollars. A U S Geological Survey bulletin reports Missouri as a new copper producer with two furnaces in Sullivan Crawford and Fredericktown producing copper. Landowners in the Little River drainage district met December 30 to form the Little River Drainage District association and elected a board including Himmelberger Sikeston Matthews Bloomfield Reynolds Caruthersville Henderson Jackson. The district covers a ninety mile long south area.

Rainy weather dampens a spelling match at Buchanan school turning it into a singing session. Miss Minnie Calison returns from visiting relatives to Farmington. Neal Scott and Lulu James wed January 4 with Rev. Morris officiating. The Buchanan stave factory has shut down amid the business panic. A new local ball team is being considered.
