Farmington Sheriff Returns from Webb City

Sheriff Chas HH Adan returned Tuesday noon from Webb City with Noah Mathes in custody on a wife abandonment charge awaiting the next court term. Mathes’ wife and seven children, living in Elvine, are reported destitute. A separate tragedy: eight weeks old baby of Mr and Mrs Nick Daniely died from burns after a bed fire at their home near the Catholic Church in Portington Monday afternoon. The baby was wrapped in a blanket, placed on the bed, and the fire started after the caregiver left briefly. Fire caused severe burns and possible suffocation. rescue efforts proved futile.
