A new proprietor announces occupancy of H. M. Smith’s brick store by April 1 1894 and launches a redaction sale with a full line of general merchandise offering unprecedented bargains in Bollinger County.
A local sale features drastic cuts on cashimers and worsteds, with 36 inch fabrics reduced from 40 to 22 1/2 cents per yard and other goods like ginghams, linens, bed ticks, and lace shoes marked down. Numerous items show substantial price drops including American blue calicoes to 6 cents and linen cloths to 30 to 50 cents. Bargain lovers can expect significant discounts on table linens and domestic fabrics.
B Rosensius announces a removal sale offering shoes, pants, suits, and coats at deep discounts. Ladies and mens footwear drop to under half price, suits and coats cut to substantial savings, with items across children and teens also reduced. Call early to take advantage of hundreds of other bargain items.
The editor vowed a better paper for Bollinger County and has delivered a transformation. The issue features a new mechanical dress, replacing the old type, with plans for improved business and job department material as the press advances.
Ex senator John J. Ingalls of Kansas lectured in Girardeau to about 400 listeners on The problems of the century. The lecture was well received and introduced by Hon W H Miller of Jackson. He departed today for Cairo.
Special to the Paesa from Larus on February 6 reports a strong local push to incorporate Lafla. Citizens urge action, believing the town’s size and importance warrant formal incorporation with steps likely soon.

Dickey treasurer and A. Sander J. A. Beck secretaries. Public use to begin in a few days. Message fee likely 15 cents.
Robert Boan and William Tedbetter broke into Dr. McAnally's High Street drug store Sunday morning. They drank liquor, left keg open, and slept on the floor. Dr. McAnally found them asleep with an empty keg. They were jailed in Fredericktown on Tuesday for bond default, with Pink Shirley and Noah Roam charged in related offenses.
Special to the Press reports a south bound Iron Mountain train engine exploded at 2 AM while being attached, wrecking the surroundings. The engineer and fireman, blown far from the cab, suffered only bruises. Nearby buildings shook, prompting earthquake fears. Also grain for sale on a Marble Hill farm with corn and seed vats advertised.
The Wilson tariff bill passed the House 204 to 140 with sixteen Democrats joining Republicans. The income tax portion approved 182 to 60 as 43 Democrats and six Republicans opposed it. Ex-Speaker Reed and Chairman Wilson mopped up amid cheers as scenes of celebration filled the Capitol. The bill goes to the Senate.
The secretary of state grants a charter to the Williamsville Greenville St. Louis railway with capital of 1,060,000 and a planned 100 mile line from Williamsville to the river in Ste Genevieve county opposite Chester Illinois. It will traverse Wayne Bollinger Madison Perry and Ste Genevieve counties with stockholders H N Holliday C W White C A Haynes Eli Klotz F A Wann and E Orr.
Edward Seabaugh and Miss Lavina Estes were married at the bride’s mother's home yesterday. Justice W. H. Lutes performed the ceremony.
